A man found injured near the corner of Boston Common early Wednesday morning has died, and a suspect has been arrested, according to Boston Police.
Officers responded to the intersection of Boylston Street and Tremont Street around 5:18 a.m. for a report of a man “suffering from trauma to his body,” the department said in a statement.
The victim was transported to the hospital, and police announced he’d been pronounced dead just before 11 a.m.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, officers at around 9:49 a.m. arrested a person of interest at the intersection of John F. Kennedy Surface Road and Beach Street in connection with an unrelated assault.
During that arrest, officers detained 27-year-old Ashlie Jeremie, who was in possession of a metal pole. Police determined that a second victim had been approached from behind and struck with the pole, causing him to fall to the ground. That victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Following further investigation, the Boston Police Homicide Unit determined that the suspect in the Boylston Street and Tremont Street incident was the same individual arrested in the Beach Street assault.
Jeremie, of Bedford, has been charged with murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and larceny under $1,200.
