Lizzo says landing her first Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover wasn’t just a career milestone — it was something she’d been envisioning for years.
The Grammy winner revealed that landing her first cover for the magazine felt like the realization of something she’d long envisioned, telling Sports Illustrated Swimsuit that she had “kind of manifested” the milestone while building her Yitty Swim brand.
“I was genuinely excited,” Lizzo said of learning she’d be part of the issue. “I was like, Wow, I kind of manifested this because I have Yitty Swim, which I love. Every time I do Yitty Swim, I always feel like it’s Sports Illustrated level. It’s only a matter of time when these worlds collide.”
That excitement only grew when she learned she wasn’t just appearing in the issue — she’d landed the cover.
“I was super excited to do the runway show, and then they were like, ‘You’re on the cover, b----,’” Lizzo recalled. “I was like, ‘Hell yeah, bring it on!’ I love it. I love it.”
For the singer, the achievement carried even greater significance because of how much representation has changed since she first saw the magazine as a child.
“When I was younger, I saw it and never imagined somebody with my body type would be on the cover,” she said. “It’s just incredible to see how we’ve redefined sexy, redefined confidence and redefined what a swimsuit body is since I was a kid.”
Lizzo said she especially appreciated seeing the magazine celebrate “all different kinds of bodies,” including pregnant bodies, adding that the runway show was “really, really cute and fabulous.”
During the shoot, Lizzo said she wore several Yitty pieces, including a glittery gold one-piece and a twisted-top two-piece, alongside bikinis from other brands. Lizzo called the Miami shoot “dreamy,” saying it included time at a Spanish-style waterfront home followed by an evening yacht cruise around the city’s skyline. “It was like a perfect day,” she said.
The musician previously spoke to PEOPLE about the mission behind Yitty Swim, saying she wanted the brand to help people feel more confident in themselves.
“I want people to find a product that makes them feel good,” Lizzo told PEOPLE. “My goal with Yitty has always been to create something that changes a person’s day for the better and the way they feel about themselves when they walk past the mirror.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Lizzo reflected on the public scrutiny surrounding her body, revealing that she intentionally gained about 20 lbs. after previously losing weight.

“I wanted to get thicker. I wanted to get juicier and thicker, and I did,” she said, adding that the experience reinforced one lesson: “Don’t try to please everybody. Just please yourself. It’s your body. You deserve to enjoy your life in it.”
Lizzo also said her focus has evolved after achieving many of her professional goals. While she believes she successfully manifested her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover, she said the dreams she’s chasing now are more personal.
“My newest fantasy is about feeling good in my body and enjoying my life,” she said. “So… I really am just seeking joy.”
