Key FDA drugs advisory committee to be reconstituted

The US FDA's Peripheral and Central Nervous System Drugs Advisory Committee has been terminated and will be re-established, according to a notice in the Federal Register.

The notice states that the committee was dissolved on June 4 by Acting Commissioner Kyle Diamantas "because its charter was not renewed on or before that expiration date. The Commissioner has determined that it is in the public interest to re-establish the Peripheral and Central Nervous System Drugs Advisory Committee for 2 years from the date it is re-established."

It goes on to say that the re-establishment is needed "based on the Committee's essential role in providing independent expert advice on neurological disease products for which the Food and Drug Administration has regulatory responsibility, the continued need for specialized expertise in this therapeutic area, and the Committee's demonstrated value in supporting FDA’s regulatory mission."

In June 2025, HHS Secretary RFK Jr. sacked all members of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and later signed off on a new set of operating rules for that panel.
