Just one day after Hollywood was left mourning the sudden loss of “Godzilla x Kong” actress Kaylee Hottle, officials have released the heartbreaking details surrounding her death.

The 18-year-old actress, whose portrayal of Jia helped make the MonsterVerse more inclusive for deaf audiences, died from multiple blunt force injuries after a devastating car crash in Maryland.

The latest findings provide new answers about the tragedy that cut short the rising star’s promising career while investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has officially ruled Kaylee Hottle’s death an accident after completing her autopsy.

According to the medical examiner, Hottle died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in Tuesday’s crash.

The findings were released after the autopsy was completed Wednesday morning, providing the first official determination of how the young actress died.

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after Hottle’s father, Joshua Hottle, confirmed her death in an emotional Facebook livestream conducted in American Sign Language, revealing that he was traveling from Texas to Maryland after receiving the devastating news.

Her death has since prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, fellow actors, and members of the deaf community, many of whom credited Hottle with bringing authentic representation to one of Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster franchises.

Investigators Continue Looking Into The Fatal Maryland Crash

Authorities have also shared additional details about the single-vehicle crash that claimed Kaylee Hottle’s life.

According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, the actress was riding as a passenger in a 1995 Honda Accord when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert in Ijamsville, Maryland, shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Officials believe excessive speed was a contributing factor, though the investigation remains ongoing. Two other people were inside the vehicle.

The 19-year-old driver suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, while another passenger declined medical treatment at the scene. Hottle was transported to a nearby trauma center, where she later died from her injuries.

Maryland law requires the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to investigate sudden accidental deaths like Hottle’s, including determining both the medical cause and official manner of death.

New Images Reveal The Severity Of The Impact

As investigators continue their work, newly published photographs have illustrated just how devastating the collision was.

The images show the Honda Accord with catastrophic front-end damage.

The hood appears crumpled inward, the front bumper nearly destroyed, and debris from the roadside, including mud and grass, remained lodged around portions of the vehicle after the crash.

While authorities have not released additional findings beyond the preliminary investigation, the photographs show the violent nature of the impact described by first responders.

Officials have not announced whether any additional charges or citations will result from the investigation, which remains active.

Kaylee Hottle Left A Lasting Mark On The MonsterVerse

Although Hottle appeared in only a handful of on-screen projects, her impact reached far beyond her filmography.

She made her feature-film debut as Jia in 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong” before reprising the role in 2024’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.”

Her character communicated with Kong through American Sign Language, making her one of the franchise’s emotional centerpieces while introducing millions of moviegoers to authentic deaf representation.

Director Adam Wingard and the creative team intentionally cast a deaf actress in the role rather than asking a hearing performer to portray Jia, a decision widely praised by disability advocates following the film’s release.

Off camera, Hottle also worked closely with language consultants and her family to ensure the American Sign Language used throughout the films remained authentic, while several cast members, including Alexander Skarsgård and Rebecca Hall, learned ASL to communicate with her during production.

Her performance ultimately earned a Saturn Award nomination for Best Younger Performer for “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” cementing her place as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable young deaf actors.

Tributes Continue As Fans Remember The Young Actress

As news of the medical examiner’s findings spread, tributes continued pouring in across social media from fans mourning a life and career that ended far too soon.

Following Tuesday’s announcement, Kaylee Hottle’s final Instagram posts were flooded with messages remembering not only her work in the Godzilla franchise but also her role as an advocate for deaf representation in mainstream entertainment.

The Texas School for the Deaf, where Hottle had been preparing to begin her senior year, also honored her memory, describing her death as a heartbreaking loss for the entire school community while extending condolences to her family and classmates.

For many fans, Kaylee Hottle’s legacy will extend well beyond the MonsterVerse. Through Jia, she helped prove that authentic representation could become one of the defining strengths of a blockbuster franchise, making her sudden death at just 18 all the more heartbreaking.
