Most people struggle to plan next year’s vacation. Amazon an d Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos helped build a clock designed to outlive entire civilizations.

During an appearance on the "Lex Fridman Podcast" in 2023, Bezos explained why he spent roughly $42 million helping fund the 10,000-Year Clock, a massive mechanical timepiece hidden inside a mountain in West Texas.

"The 10,000-year clock is an idea conceived by brilliant guy named Danny Hillis way back in the ’80s," Bezos said. "The idea is to build a clock as a symbol for long-term thinking."

Unlike an ordinary clock, this one moves at a pace almost impossible to imagine.

A Clock That Barely Moves

Bezos described the project as "a physical clock of monumental scale," standing about 500 feet tall inside a mountain.

Conceptually, he said, "it ticks once a year, it chimes once every a hundred years, and the cuckoo comes out once every a thousand years."

The clock is entirely mechanical and designed to operate for 10,000 years without human intervention, using carefully selected materials built to withstand the passage of time.

Its remote location is intentional.

"It’s in a remote location, both to protect it, but also so that visitors have to kind of make a pilgrimage," Bezos said on the podcast.

Thinking Beyond the Next Quarter

For Bezos, the clock isn’t really about keeping time.

It’s about changing how people think about it.

He hopes the project eventually becomes something larger than a monument—a reminder that meaningful ideas often unfold over generations rather than news cycles or quarterly earnings reports.

Over hundreds of years, Bezos said, he hopes the clock develops "the patina of age" and encourages humanity to extend its thinking far beyond a single lifetime.

That philosophy has shaped much of his career, from Amazon’s emphasis on long-term investment to Blue Origin’s decades-long mission of lowering the cost of space travel.

Playing the Long Game

That same long-term mindset is increasingly shaping the next wave of technology.

Bezos has committed $100 billion to a robotics-focused investment fund, signaling how much he believes automation will influence the decades ahead. While that fund isn’t open to everyday investors, companies like Immersed are giving retail investors another way to participate in the broader spatial computing and AI-driven productivity movement.

Immersed built a full-stack remote productivity platform — combining AR/VR software, an AI assistant, and its own headset — with partners including Meta, Samsung and Qualcomm, and investors can currently buy in at $0.79 per share.

The 10,000-Year Clock won’t finish its first millennium for generations. But that’s exactly the point.

Bezos didn’t help build it to tell people what time it is today. He built it to ask a much harder question: What decisions would people make differently if they were thinking 10,000 years ahead instead of 10?

Building Wealth Across More Than Just the Market

Building a resilient portfolio means thinking beyond a single asset or market trend. Economic cycles shift, sectors rise and fall, and no one investment performs well in every environment. That’s why many investors look to diversify with platforms that provide access to real estate, fixed-income opportunities, precious metals, and even self-directed retirement accounts. By spreading exposure across multiple asset classes, it becomes easier to manage risk, capture steady returns, and create long-term wealth that isn’t tied to the fortunes of just one company or industry.

Arrived

Backed by Jeff Bezos, Arrived Homes makes real estate investing accessible with a low barrier to entry. Investors can buy fractional shares of single-family rentals and vacation homes starting with as little as $100. This allows everyday investors to diversify into real estate, collect rental income, and build long-term wealth without needing to manage properties directly.

Realberry

Institutional-quality real estate has traditionally been difficult for individual investors to access. Realberry gives accredited investors direct access to private real estate opportunities backed by a team with 35 years of experience, $3.4 billion in assets under management, and $481 million in cumulative distributions paid to investors as of Q4 2025, according to the company. With a portfolio spanning 13 million square feet across seven U.S. states, Realberry focuses on acquiring, developing, and managing real estate with an emphasis on long-term value creation while its principals often invest alongside clients to help align interests.

FarmTogether

Farmland has historically held its value through market volatility and delivered returns uncorrelated to stocks and bonds. For accredited investors, FarmTogether offers direct access to high-quality U.S. farmland starting at $15,000 — fully managed, with no landlord headaches.

Immersed

Immersed is building technology for the future of work through spatial computing. Known for its AR/VR productivity platform that enables users to work across multiple virtual screens, the company has grown to more than 1.5 million users worldwide. Immersed is also developing Visor, a lightweight headset designed specifically for professional productivity, positioning the company at the intersection of remote work, extended reality (XR), and next-generation computing.

Fundrise

Private real estate and private credit can add income and stability to a stock-heavy portfolio. Fundrise offers access to diversified private real estate and credit strategies through an easy-to-use platform, with professionally managed portfolios designed to generate passive income and long-term growth.

Mode Mobile

Mode Mobile is changing the way people interact with their phones by letting users earn money from the same apps and activities they already use every day. Instead of platforms keeping all the advertising revenue, Mode Mobile shares a portion back with users who engage with content, play games, and scroll on their devices. Named one of Deloitte’s fastest-growing software companies in North America, the company has built a large beta user base and is scaling a model that turns everyday smartphone usage into a potential income stream.

EquityMultiple

For accredited investors looking beyond stocks and bonds, EquityMultiple provides access to vetted commercial real estate deals starting at $5,000, with only ~5% of opportunities passing their due diligence process.

'Why should I continue to tip when you are earning $21.30 an hour?' asks a Seattle resident. 'I don't get tips for doing my job'

Tipping has become one of the most divisive topics among diners, and one Seattle resident sparked a heated debate by asking whether the tradition still makes sense in a city where restaurant servers already earn one of the highest minimum wages in the country. “Why should I continue to tip when you are earning $21.30 an hour?” they wrote on Reddit’s r/EndTipping forum recently. “WHY am I giving you a tip to take my order and bring my food when...

Billionaire Jeff Bezos called Amazon’s customer service to prove a point but waited in silence for more than 10 minutes — ‘It was really long’

Numbers can tell a story. Amazon (AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos believed they could also tell the wrong one. When customer complaints didn’t match what his team’s reports were saying, he decided there was only one way to settle the debate. Speaking on the Lex Fridman Podcast in December 2023, Bezos recalled an early Amazon meeting where executives revie...

Elon Musk says AI and robots will do 'so much stuff' we run out of things for humans to do — but 'we'll basically just issue money to people'

The biggest workplace debate of the next decade might not be about asking for a raise. It could be figuring out what to do when the robots have already finished the job. That’s the future Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk painted during a conversation with XPRIZE founder Peter Diamandis at the Abundance Summit in March. Rather than warning that artificial intelligence will simply replace workers, Musk described a world where AI and humanoid robots...
