With training camp quickly approaching, ESPN's Michael DiRocco put together an early 53-man roster prediction for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Absent from this projection were two veteran players.
At tight end, DiRocco left off Hunter Long, while along the offensive line, Chuma Edoga wasn't included either.
Are Hunter Long and Chuma Edoga's roster spots in jeopardy?
Although both Long and Edoga bring experience and were on the roster last year, which included appearing in a number of games, it's not a surprise either that DiRocco didn't include them on his roster prediction.
At tight end, Brenton Strange will lead the way, while the Jaguars added Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol in the draft. That likely leaves Long and Quintin Morris battling for the final spot.
Morris contributed more on special teams and adds another blocking presence to this unit. Long's skill set, as a predominantly pass-catching tight end, can largely be replicated with Koziol on the roster.
Edoga's versatility is valuable, but the Jaguars invested top 100 picks the last two years in the offensive line unit, selecting Wyatt Milum and Emmanuel Pregnon, both of whom could fill in at guard.
Then at tackle, Walker Little will be the first option off the bench when everyone is healthy, and Milum could fill in as well, leaving Edoga sitting on the very back end of the depth chart.
Cole Van Lanen, Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey, Patrick Mekari, Anton Harrison, Walker Little, Milum, Jonah Monheim, and Pregnon account for nine roster spots, which is often how many players a team rosters at this position group.
With both players, the Jaguars save salary cap space by releasing them.
