When LeBron James announced that he would not be returning to the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2026-27 season and that the franchise was free to move forward without him after an eight-year partnership, it immediately sparked widespread debate.
Many interpreted the separation as evidence that the Lakers had never fully embraced King James. In contrast, others claimed the organization had already turned the page on one of the greatest players in NBA history, largely satisfied that LeBron's shadow no longer loomed over the franchise.
Despite that, the four-time MVP refuses to share that sentiment or add more fuel to that hate story. Put simply, rather than feeding into speculation, LBJ made it clear that he remains immensely grateful to the Lakers for allowing him to join one of basketball's most iconic franchises. Thus, those memories Bron made are for a lifetime.
"First of all, shout out to my former team," the four-time MVP said. "I spent eight great years with the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most historical franchises in the world."
LeBron has nothing but love
That message carried even more weight, given everything surrounding the Lakers throughout the 2025-26 season.
As the 41-year-old forward tried to help the team hold onto their Top-6 seed, reports repeatedly surfaced suggesting that there was growing tension between him and Jeanie Buss, who was frustrated with the four-time NBA champion for showing no gratitude when the franchise drafted his firstborn in 2024, as well as LeBron taking no accountability for the failed Russell Westbrook experiment.
Moreover, after the Lakers were swept in the second round of the 2026 playoffs, James' comments were considered a direct shot at GM Rob Pelinka. Despite all that speculation, LeBron decided to bury the bitterness and expressed nothing but admiration for Jeanie, Rob, and everyone in the Purple & Gold organization.
"Shout out Jeanie Buss, the whole Buss family, Rob Pelinka, everybody," James added. "All the coaches that I played for there, all my teammates. S—t, I'm going to miss them all."
James shows his class
That response says a great deal about who LeBron has always been. Considering the number of theories and rumors that have surrounded him throughout his career, it would have been easy to address the speculation directly or push back against his former colleagues. Instead, James once again chose the higher road, refusing to allow outside narratives to define his relationship with one of the NBA's most historic franchises.
At 41 years old, James has reached a stage in his career where he no longer feels the need to respond to every headline or social media debate. After years of facing criticism, much of it designed to generate attention, LBJ's focus now lies on writing the next chapter of his legendary career in peace.
That being said, this is exactly why LeBron Raymone James was and always will be an all-time Lakers legend.
