Shaken with tequila and triple sec, it'll have you thinking you're at a fancy bar!

When it comes to margaritas, I am a snob. I can sniff out an artificial sweet-and-sour mix a mile away. If my options are between the premade highlighter yellow mix and no margarita, I will be sticking with my water, thank you very much. I’ve had enough good margaritas to know once you try the real deal, it’s impossible to go back. Living in Birmingham, Alabama, it’s easy to find a great one at many restaurants and bars in town, so I don’t make them at home often. On the rare occasion that I do, I’m usually whipping up a big batch for a party, and let’s just say juicing enough limes for 20 people is not something I love doing.

I refuse to make a bad margarita, but I also refuse to spend hours in the kitchen doing all the prep work required to make a good one. So, in an effort to minimize time spent juicing and maximize time spent sipping, I went on a quest to find a pre-made margarita mix that doesn’t suck. Most of the options I found were not up to par, but then I came across one that passed even my very high standards. After wasting a lot of time in the shelf-stable mixer aisle, I decided to try my luck in the refrigerated section. To my surprise, I found a refrigerated mix made by a familiar juice brand. When I got the bottle home and shook it up with tequila and triple sec, and served it with my signature chile-salt rim, I knew I found a winner.

The Best Pre-Made Margarita Mix

Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company is my go-to brand for fresh citrus juices and lemonades, so it’s no surprise that their refrigerated Margarita Mix is top-notch, too. Unlike shelf-stable mixes that use the bottled lime juice, Natalie’s has only 3 ingredients: water, fresh limes, and Florida pure cane sugar. You can definitely taste the freshly-squeezed lime difference, and I was shocked how much this mix tastes like the margaritas I order at my favorite restaurants in town. While it is a little more expensive than other mixes (around $10 for 1 liter), I don’t mind paying for the superior quality. It is truly a game-changer when it comes to batch margaritas in my house. For a single serving, I follow this recipe, replacing the lime juice for the margarita mix, and for bigger batches, I multiply it by the number of people I’m serving. It’s a hit every time!
