Last season, the Wisconsin Badgers finished the season ranked as the nation’s 135th-ranked offense, which measured just 253.1 yards per game. These numbers scream that change is needed. Could next season see the Badgers move to a run-first offense?With Old Dominion transfer quarterback Colton Joseph totaling 1,007 yards last season on the ground, there is a clear shift in ethos. To stamp this idea even more, one of the Badgers’ biggest gets was the recruitment of former Iowa State star running back Abu Sama III. In three years with the Cyclones, Sama notched 1,933 yards, with an average of 5.6 yards per attempt and 13 rushing touchdowns. Perhaps the most impressive stat in Sama’s time is that last season, the 4-star transfer averaged 4.3 yards per carry after contact, ranking 7th-best in the country.
With signs pointing towards a newer run-heavy approach, fans can only hope for a much-improved offense heading into a crucial season under head coach Luke Fickell. Sama was one of three 4-stars who joined via the portal for a Badgers team that finished the season as the nation’s 39th-overall transfer class according to 247Sports.
