House of the Dragon is making everyone see red in the Red Keep.
Just take Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), whose marathon of setbacks reached fever pitch in the July 19 episode “Unbowed and Unbent” after Ormond Hightower (James Norton) orchestrated a massacre of their Gold Cloak guards.
Overall, a pretty depressing first week on the job for Alyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim) as he pivoted from naval warrior to castle-bound bureaucrat.
“Alyn doesn’t want any of this. He doesn’t want to be in the position he’s in,” Salim explained in an exclusive chat with SYFY Wire. “He brings a new perspective and a fresh take on this, but he doesn't want any of this stuff.”
Indeed, Alyn saw just how quickly the status quo in Westeros can go from bad to all out dire.
“There is a sense of, ‘This is not what I really signed up for,’” the Raised by Wolves alum shared. “It started when my brother started riding dragons. It's like, ‘What are we doing here?’”
A hero of the Battle of the Gullet, Alyn—along with brother Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty)—were set to become legitimized as sons of Corlys (Steve Toussaint) before Rhaenyra’s concern for royal appearances ended the discussion.
Instead, Alyn found himself serving as Corlys’ proxy on Rhaenyra’s small council, worlds away from the life at sea he once knew. As Salim put it, “We were just happy living our little lives.”
As for what fans can expect in the season's final three episodes?
“I probably shouldn't, but I do like seeing the reactions from the fans and what they're thinking,” Salim admitted. “There's all these speculations and rumors. I'm reading them being like, ‘That's no.’”
Instead of confirming those speculation and rumors, he offered two words to describe what’s next: “Chaos and emotion.”
