Actor Prakash Raj has criticised the silence of many in the film industry over the ongoing student-led protests backing the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and Sonam Wangchuk. In his latest interview, he said that such movements show who is willing to stand with people and who is not. He was among the prominent celebrity supporters at the CJP's Chalo Sansad march at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Monday, where he addressed the gathering and later walked with protesters while holding a copy of the Constitution.
Speaking to PeekTV at the protest, he was asked why more Bollywood celebrities had not publicly backed the movement. Replying to the industry's silence, he said, "People who speak, the world is watching who will stand by the people. Simple."
When asked whether he was disappointed by the response from his peers, Prakash said the issue was not about personal satisfaction but accountability. "It is not the question of being happy. Now you know who is what. Such movements show who has got the integrity, who will stand for the people. Who am I to say? I can talk to myself. People have great voices, great actors I wish they used it for this. They have not, people will judge! When history will be written tomorrow, they may forgive who might have made the mistake but they will never forgive who was silent," he said.
On Monday, Prakash also shared a video on X showing himself on stage with CJP members as supporters raised slogans. Actors Shabana Azmi and Poonam Pandey were also present at the march. Several other film personalities, including Hrithik Roshan, Vishal Dadlani, Sonakshi Sinha, Vir Das, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonu Sood, Bhumi Pednekar, Dia Mirza and Chinmayi Sripaada, have expressed solidarity with Wangchuk through social media posts.
Prakash has repeatedly backed the movement in recent weeks. Earlier, after meeting Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar, he shared photographs from the protest and wrote, "In solidarity with the youngsters of my country at #JantarMantar @Wangchuk66 @Cockroachisback #justasking." The photographs showed him addressing demonstrators, interacting with protesters and posing with the activist.
Last month, he also attended a CJP protest in Bengaluru, where he spoke alongside Wangchuk and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke. Criticising the political establishment, he said elected representatives should do their jobs instead of politics and praised young people for taking charge of issues affecting their future.
