We’re passing the time between now and Dallas Cowboys training camp, and this fun exercise’s results include a very playoff run featuring familiar foes.
A little over a week from now, the Dallas Cowboys will hold their first training camp practice. Prediction season is at full go and here at A to Z Sports, we decided a good way to pass the time was to have Grok, the AI platform, simulate the entire 2026 Cowboys season.

Cowboys’ regular season prediction
Grok has the Cowboys going 10-7 for second place in the NFC East, which will sting for fans. Double digit wins int he NFL no longer guarantees you a place in the playoffs, so this would imply sitting around and waiting for a wildcard berth. Spoiler alert: the Cowboys get one (more on that later).
And as much as I hate to say it, it’s tough to disagree with Grok here. Back in May, I also predicted a 10-7 record for Dallas in my game-by-game predictions post.
Grok has the Cowboys winning back-to-back matches to start the season against the New York Giants (31-20) and Washington Commanders (28-24). However, it has Dallas dropping its next two: one in Rio de Janeiro versus the Baltimore Ravens (31-24) and another versus the Houston Texans (30-23). The latter one intrigues me as I believe the Texans may be the most underrated team in the NFL entering the 2026 season.
After that, Grok has the Cowboys beating the Tampa Bay Bucs (27-23) before dropping two versus a couple of NFC contenders; the Green Bay Packers (28-21) and Philadelphia Eagles (34-20). From there, the Cowboys go on a 4-2 run before their Week 14 bye:
- Win vs Arizona Cardinals (33-17)
- Win at Indianapolis Colts (28-24)
- Loss vs San Francisco 49ers (27-24)
- Win vs Tennessee Titans (30-27)
- Win vs Philadelphia Eagles (30-27)
- Loss at Seattle Seahawks (31-22)
In the final four-game stretch, the Cowboys lose to the Los Angeles Rams (30-24) before closing on a three-win streak against the Jacksonville Jaguars (31-17), Giants (34-21), and Commanders (28-25).
Grok predicts wild slate of playoff opponents
The good news? The Cowboys get some payback in Grok’s playoff prediction. It has the six-seed Cowboys visiting the Green Bay Packers, who have authored many heartbreaks for Dallas fans in recent history, in the Wild Card Round.
In its prediction, it has the Cowboys beating the Packers 24-21. It even predicts a clutch 12-play, 68-yard drive from Dak Prescott to secure the win in crunch time. On third-and-nine, Prescott hits Lamb for a 22-yard gain and later finds George Pickens on a quick slant on fourth-and three.
“With under 90 seconds left, Brandon Aubrey nails a 46-yard go-ahead field goal (his third of the game) for a 24-21 lead.”
It predicts a 298-yard game for Prescott and a 118-yard outing with a touchdown for CeeDee Lamb. Caleb Downs and Rashan Gary combine for a forced fumble and multiple key stops.
The predicted win means another playoff game and this one is against none other than the Eagles. The bad news? The Cowboys lose in the Divisional Round.
“The game stays competitive into the fourth quarter, with Dallas' offense keeping pace but the Eagles pulling away late via big plays and capitalizing on a couple of Cowboys miscues,” Grok lays out.
Among those key plays, it predicts a late interception off of Dak Prescott to seal the game in the fourth quarter.
Few things would sting as bad as a playoff loss to a division rival like the Eagles, but this is Grok’s world.
Stats predictions
For the 2026 season, Grok predicts some big-time numbers for the Cowboys offense.
- Dak Prescott MVP year: Grok has Dak at 4,850 yards, 36 TDs, 9 INTs. That would be tie his career high touchdowns in a single season (2023) and fall on second place in terms of yardage (he had 4,902 in 2019).
- CeeDee beats George: One of this year’s major storylines will be who gets the better numbers between the two top Cowboys receivers. Grok says Lamb with a remarkable 10-touchdown season and 1,450 receiving yards. Pickens’ projected yards fall at 1,207.
- Rashan Gary goes off: The Cowboys believe Gary can be a locker room leader. Grok expects big numbers, too, calling for nine sacks from the veteran. Over the last five years, Gary averages 8 sacks per season.
Cowboys storylines to watch
Unsurprisingly, asked about the top storylines to watch, Grok mentioned the Cowboys’ defensive overhaul, Caleb Downs’ rookie impact, and Dak Prescott’s health.
More interestingly, it brought up Gary’s fit on Parker’s scheme, which is crucial for this defense. The Cowboys need one edge rusher to step up and though there are younger options, Gary is the most proven player at the position. His play will move the needle one way or another for the Cowboys defense. There’s no question about it.
Of course, this is a just-for-fun exercise with Grok now that AI is all the rage. You shouldn’t take it too seriously, but we’ll make sure to return in January to see what it did (and didn’t) get right.
