Glen Powell is headed back to the baseball field. And this time, he's playing Lou Gehrig.
Powell, 37, is best known for roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You. With a lengthy resume that includes Hidden Figures, Hit Man, and his series, Chad Powers, he's set to reunite with director Richard Linklater, whom he previously worked with on the Texas baseball film Everybody Wants Some!! and the romantic crime film Hit Man. He'll head to first base to play Gehrig, one of the most famous New York Yankees in American history who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball.
Deadline reported that in addition to Powell in the starring role and Linklater at the helm, Saturday Night Live legend and devoted Yankees fan Lorne Michaels is set to produce. Simon Rich, the seasoned magazine writer and author who penned An American Pickle and the upcoming Luca Guadagnino film Artificial, will pen the script.

Gehrig's reign as a baseball legend ended when he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neuromuscular disease which many now refer to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He died at age 37 in 1941.

Gary Cooper portrayed Gehrig in the 1942 drama Pride of the Yankees, which was subtitled The Life of Lou Gehrig. The film was released the year after Gehrig died.

While Powell's professional life is thriving, his personal one also seems to be going extremely well. From the looks of his social media, Powell had a wonderful Fourth of July. The star went Instagram official with Landman star Michelle Randolph. He shared a variety of photos from a rollicking Texas party that included several photos of the blonde beauty, including a solo photo of her dancing and a black-and-white photo of the couple kissing.
“Hell of a Fourth,” Powell captioned the post.
