Gillian Anderson looks so happy demonstrating LEGO The X-Files

Scully herself has endorsed a new Lego set based on 90s TV sensation The X-Files, with a fan-inspired designed featuring eight minifigures and a giant UFO.

Lego don’t often talk publicly about what sort of things they’re willing to make sets based on what is out of bounds. Although minifigures have had realistic looking guns for years, Lego always shies away from non-fantasy military vehicles and anything based on adult-themed movies… kind of.

You’re never going to get official sets based on gory horror movies and the like but surprisingly there is one based on Jaws, which is technically only rated 12. That was made as part of the Lego Ideas line, which is based on fan designs, which then get voted on by the Lego community. The most popular ones get turned into real products, where the original designer gets a small cut of the profits.

That is the slightly convoluted route that has led to an official The X-Files Lego set and the end result is pretty magical, with a ton of minifigures and a highly detailed version of Mulder’s office that’s filled with Easter eggs and nods to the beloved TV show.

The set features Mulder’s office and a forest clearing with a hovering UFO, but the whole thing can be taken apart and displayed separately, including the UFO and the forest scene.

Mulder’s office can be partially taken apart, to better see the details, which include the famous I Want to Believe poster, uneaten sunflower seeds (Mulder’s favourite), an X-Files dossier, and pencils stuck to the ceiling from when Mulder gets bored.
