GE Aerospace GE shares climbed Monday after the company announced a breakthrough in hybrid-electric aviation, demonstrating the first flight of its kind above 30,000 feet in collaboration with NASA, BETA Technologies, Inc. BETA, and Boeing Co BA.

The longest hybrid-electric segment during the campaign lasted more than two hours.

The aircraft used GE Aerospace’s megawatt-class, multi-kilovolt propulsion system developed through NASA’s Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration project.

The system combined a conventional CT7 engine with electric motor-generators, power converters, batteries and other flight components. BETA Technologies served as systems integrator, Boeing subsidiary Aurora Flight Sciences supplied the nacelle, and BAE Systems Plc BAESY provided the batteries.

GE Aerospace said the electric powertrain powered the propeller and recharged the battery in flight, improving climb performance and high-altitude capability while addressing challenges including heat management, lower atmospheric pressure and power density.

Broader Technology Strategy

GE Aerospace received the NASA contract in 2021 and has since completed several hybrid-electric development milestones.

The company is also advancing related technologies through the CFM International RISE program, which targets more than 20% lower fuel burn than commercial engines currently in service.

GE Technical Outlook

GE Aerospace traded at $354, about 2.7% below its 20-day simple moving average of $362.87, indicating near-term pressure.

However, the stock remains above its 50-day SMA of $333.68. The 50-day average also stands above the 200-day SMA following a golden cross in June, supporting a bullish longer-term trend.

The Relative Strength Index stands at 48.15, signaling neutral conditions rather than an overbought or oversold setup. That leaves room for further upside if buying momentum strengthens.

Resistance stands near $383, while support is around $311, where buyers previously stepped in.

Analyst Consensus & Recent Actions

The stock is rated Buy, with an average price target of $388.36. Recent analyst moves include:

  • RBC Capital: Outperform (Maintains Target to $400.00) (July 17)
  • UBS: Buy (Raises Target to $435.00) (July 17)
  • RBC Capital: Outperform (Raises Target to $400.00) (July 15)
