"I told them. I mean, you got to stop these fires from coming in and you know poisoning our air. Our air has been poisoned. Have a good relationship with Mark Carney, but you know we got to stop the fires up there."
He went on, "If we can help them, we'll help them. But maybe they should pay us some damages or something, or we should do some tariffs."
Beginning on Thursday, dense smoke originating from hundreds of Ontario wildfires blanketed a large portion of the United States, stretching from the Midwest to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. As a result, U.S. residents received ongoing advisories to remain inside whenever possible.
According to government data, the current wildfire season in Canada has resulted in approximately 5.9 million acres being consumed by flames. Climate scientists note that the escalating global temperatures are fueling a worldwide surge in both the frequency and severity of these wildfires.
On top of this, reduced soil moisture and heightened drought conditions indicate that climate change is driving the increasing frequency and scale of Canada's fires.

Carney stated on X that Canada has deployed more than 5,300 firefighting personnel and is using data and advanced thermal imaging technology for real-time detection and mitigation efforts.
Earlier this week, Trump accused Canada of "willful negligence" in handling the disaster. On Friday, the 80-year-old president wrote on Truth Social, that he will hold Canada responsible for "not properly maintaining their Forests" as the smoke has brought hazardous air quality to millions of Americans.
He even accused Canada of refusing to "engage in basic forest management and debris removal," and added that the country's "willful negligence" has cost the U.S. "billions of dollars."
He stated, "I will call the Prime Minister during the day to find out what they are going to do about it. The cost is incalculable! Canada has refused to engage in basic Forest Management and Debris Removal, knowing that such refusal will lead to exactly this result."
Recent data from Global Nature Watch shows that forest fires are only getting worse, burning more than twice as much tree cover today as they did 20 years ago, largely due to climate change.
The report notes, "These fires aren't just impacting the world's forests. They've destroyed homes and infrastructure, polluted drinking water and caused billions of dollars in property damage.
