Fulham plan £24m bid for Southampton's Charles to gazump Leeds - who have had three bids rejected

Fulham are preparing a £24million offer for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles.

Leeds United have so far fallen short of Southampton's demands for the Northern Ireland international with the Championship side holding out for £25million plus add-ons.

Leeds have made three proposals with add-ons but with agreement still to be found, Fulham are ready to make their move.

Manager Alvaro Arbeloa is on board with bringing in the 22-year-old who started out at Manchester City and talks are expected to advance.

Charles scored the winning goal against Middlesbrough which looked to have secured their place in the play-off final against Hull City only for Spygate to end their season abruptly.

He was left out of their squad to face Eastleigh in a friendly at the weekend however as he had been afforded more time off after being involved in international friendlies for Northern Ireland.

Fulham are also showing interest in Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson, along with Benfica and Valencia.

The 26-year-old had a disappointing spell on loan at Brentford last season and is looking for more game time.

Fulham are exploring a number of options for wide areas. Real Madrid’s Franco Mastantuono is an ambitious target.

Fulham have also spoken to Trabzonspor about Nigeria centre back Chibuike Nwaiwu. 

Meanwhile, as well as Arsenal’s Nelson, Valencia are looking into re-signing Largie Ramazani who was left out of Leeds’ travelling party for their USA tour today.
