Phifer is from the Atlanta-area originally and had the chance to go to Harvard out of high school, but opted instead to go to James Madison. After Curt Cignetti left the program, he had the option to transfer out, but instead chose to stay on with Bob Chesney and his new staff. He talked about his process for making those decisions.
He then talked about the decision to come to UCLA, and how he had interest from Ohio State that was also compelling, but ultimately chose to stick with the coaches he’d grown comfortable with over the last two years.
He also talked about his value as a blocking tight end, but that he also sees himself as more than that, and is hoping to showcase that in fall camp and beyond, with particular emphasis on improving his route-running and showing off better hands.
