The pan-European Stoxx 600 (STOXX) edged 0.62% lower to €641.30, as rising oil prices and escalating tensions in the Middle East weighed on overall market sentiment. UK natural gas prices rose further to above 154 pence per therm on Thursday.
Coming up in the session: ECB interest rate decision expected later in the day, where the bank is widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged as officials assess the fallout from the intensifying Middle East conflict.
In the bond market, the yield on the US 10-year Treasury was up 2 basis points to 4.68%
UK's 10-year yield was up 4 basis points to 5.08%.
