Estée Lauder Companies (EL) disclosed a data security incident that involved personal information for some customers.The cosmetics company said it became aware of the cybersecurity issue involving a vulnerability in the Oracle E-Business Suite system, which is used by Estee Lauder (EL) for HR management purposes. An unauthorized third party gained access to the Oracle E-Business Suite system and obtained personal information of certain individuals.Estée Lauder (EL) said that after learning of the issue with the Oracle E-Business Suite system, it quickly launched an investigation and worked with leading outside cybersecurity experts to determine the nature andscope of the issue and impacted information. Law enforcement authorities were also notified.Looking ahead, Estée Lauder (EL) said it has put in place additional safeguards to further protect the system.
