Hong Kong-based Edko Films has acquired worldwide rights to We Are Born Good, the feature directing debut of Hong Kong filmmaker Yeung Leung Cheun, which has been selected by Toronto International Film Festival for the Discovery section.

Starring Yeung Wai Lun and Golden Horse best actress winner Chung Suet Ying, the film is inspired by a widely circulated CCTV clip in which a minor physical collision between two workers in a Hong Kong market led to all out chaos. The story of the film revolves around two people who become embroiled in a cycle of revenge that gets out of hand.

"In today’s rapidly changing and unpredictable world, urban work is high-pressure and fast-paced, making life difficult," said Yeung in a statement. "Perhaps we often live in a state of ‘tipping point', where with just a little provocation, things can easily explode. We Are born Good aims to depict the stories behind those living restlessly in our city.

Yeung is known as a screenwriter with credits including Hong Kong Family, which was selected at the 27th Busan International Film Festival, and award-winning short films Liu Yang He and Wild Child. He also won Best Director at the 12th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival with his short film The Bridge.

We Are Born Good is produced by veteran Hong Kong producer Patricia Cheng through Good Night Production with support from the Hong Kong Film Development Fund. Cheng has produced multiple films by renowned director Sylvia Chang, including Love Education, Murmur Of The Hearts, and others.
