Ed Harris is not holding back when it comes to his feelings on filming the Yellowstone spinoff, Dutton Ranch.

The 75-year-old actor got brutally honest on the red carpet with Variety in an interview published Monday, July 20, telling the publication that he felt “a little misled” about his role as Everett McKinney.

When asked about how many seasons of Dutton Ranch he’s signed up for, Harris flatly stated, “Two.”

The four-time Academy Award nominee then went into a lengthy rant on how “midway through this first season” he wanted out.

“I didn’t feel like I was being used,” Harris, who plays the local veterinarian on Dutton Ranch, explained. “Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was and what my character was going to do — and that I was one of the four main characters. And that wasn’t really the case.”

At one point, Harris said he voiced his concerns, stating that he felt “underused and inconsequential.” However, he alluded that nothing was done to rectify the situation.

When asked if he’s begun work on season 2, Harris said that they don’t start “until February” and claimed he was told his character will have “a little bit more to do.”

“It just was just a little frustrating, to tell you the truth,” Harris continued. “When I watched this season, it’s fine, and I thought it’s pretty good. I felt fine about what I did in it, and it seemed like I was relatively important to the story, but the doing of it did not feel that way.”

One thing that really upset Harris, he said, was that he was told he was going to sing during a bar scene in one of this season’s episodes. However, it was apparently “cut” from the show’s final edit.

“They didn’t show it,” Harris claimed. “They said it was too ‘up’ for the dark ending of that episode, and that to me was reason enough to say, ‘I’m voiding my contract.'”

Dutton Ranch, executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, features Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprising their roles from Yellowstone. It was recently renewed for a second season.
