Leandro Paredes has finally spoken out after launching a violent attack following Argentina's loss to Spain in the World Cup final – but has stopped short of apologizing. The midfielder received a yellow card in the 52nd minute and was lucky to remain on the pitch until the final whistle.
Yet moments after the game ended, he brought shame upon himself by attacking Spanish players as they celebrated. Paredes was filmed grabbing Eric Garcia by the throat and hurling Gavi to the ground during his enraged outburst. Initial reports suggested the referee had shown him a red card.
However, in FIFA’s match report, there was no record of a red card being shown.

Rather than issue an apology or even acknowledge his disgraceful conduct, Paredes took to Instagram with a lengthy message directed at Argentina's fans.
He wrote: "Thank you, Argentina! I love you today and always. Today, I write with a heavy heart, having been unable to bring our country the joy it so richly deserves.
"But with a chest full of pride for having given everything we had and for flying our flag at the very top once again! Thank you to everyone who was part of this national team.
"To this group of players who gave their all to represent this jersey, fighting for it until the very last second of every match! It was an honor to be part of the best Argentine national team in history."
Enzo Fernandez also had a lapse in judgment when he received a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Pau Cubarsi near the end of regulation time.
His dismissal left Argentina facing a tough task in extra time, but similar to Paredes, he offered no apology in his social media post following the match.
Fernandez wrote: "As time passes, you realize there is something much bigger than a result. For years, this group has represented our country in the best possible way.

"Wearing my country's shirt is the greatest honor of my career, and I will continue to give everything I have every time I'm called upon to defend it."
