White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that the dignified transfer of U.S. service members killed in the Iran war over the weekend was postponed.
"Scheduling Update: the dignified transfer is no longer taking place tomorrow," Leavitt wrote in a statement on social media. "The exact day and time are still being finalized."
The event, announced Monday morning, was originally scheduled to take place Tuesday at Dover Air Force Base, with President Donald Trump expected to attend.
Two service members were killed Friday at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, identified as 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas.
“On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in action as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks,” U.S. Central Command wrote.
Trump threatened to retaliate in response to the attacks on Monday following the collapse of the U.S.-brokered peace deal last week.
“Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!” Trump posted on Truth Social. “This directive has been passed on to Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Caine, and every Leader in the Military.”
CENTCOM announced Monday that it had completed a new round of strikes against Iran as the United States escalates its efforts against Tehran.

"The strikes are designed to further degrade Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said in a statement.
Earlier this year, the president attended the dignified transfer of six U.S. service members who died after a KC-135 refueling aircraft crashed in Iraq. Seventeen service members are confirmed to have been killed since the war started on Feb. 28.
