The National Weather Service is planning to inspect storm damage in seven different Kentucky counties Wednesday after a round of severe weather passed through the state Tuesday.
The surveys are taking place in Bourbon, Casey, Hardin, Hart, Grayson, Meade and Metcalfe counties. The NWS has not confirmed any tornadic damage from Tuesday’s storms as of Wednesday morning.
The storm passed through the region Tuesday afternoon, prompting several tornado warnings and leaving thousands without power. As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, there were approximately 4,500 customers in Kentucky without power, according to poweroutage.us.
Large outages were reported in Harrison, Hart and Metcalfe counties. There were no reported outages in Fayette County, according to LG&E & KU’s power outage map.
The storm largely avoided Lexington, although the southern part of Fayette County was under two severe thunderstorm warnings between 4 and 5 p.m., according to the Mesonet. Lexington’s southern Mesonet station recorded a 37.3 mile per hour wind gust at 5:05 p.m. and picked up 0.64 inches of rain.
Anyone who experienced damage from the storms is encouraged to report it to the NWS.
