Dave Portnoy continues to take jabs at New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
On Monday, the Barstool Sports founder took aim at Mamdani on X, sarcastically responding to the mayor’s statement following an explosion outside a federal building in Lower Manhattan.
“What occurred outside 26 Federal Plaza this morning was deeply disturbing. I’m relieved no one was seriously injured and that a suspect is in custody. My team is in touch with the NYPD and we will support the federal investigation,” Mamdani wrote on X. “Our administration will continue to ensure that every New Yorker is safe in their city — and hold accountable any who threaten that.”
Portnoy, whose dislike of Mamdani has led to him considering running to unseat the mayor, responded with a sarcastic post that appeared to mock Mamdani’s approach to crime and public safety.
“I am happy to report that the suspect is in custody and I have invited him as my guest of honor for dinner tonight at Gracie Mansion,” Portnoy wrote, quote-tweeting Mamdani’s post.
According to WABC-TV in New York, a man used fireworks to ignite a fire outside 26 Federal Plaza at about 8:30 a.m. Monday. He was also armed with multiple weapons, police said.
Federal authorities identified the suspect as 43-year-old Andrew Arrabaca, a former U.S. Army veteran who served from 2001-2005 as a mechanic on Patriot missile systems.
The FBI said Arrabaca poured gasoline into a stairwell outside the building and ignited it with a firework, sending flames and smoke up the building’s facade. He then fired five to seven pellets from an airsoft gun.
Authorities said no one was seriously injured, and the suspect was taken into custody.
The motive for the attack has not been publicly disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
