Cyberpunk 2077 officially returns next year with ambitious new release

Gaming has reached nearly unprecedented levels of hype in 2026, which is mostly due to the biggest launch the industry has seen in years, Grand Theft Auto 6. After several delays, Rockstar has finally confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on November 19, and pre-orders for the game are officially live as of a few weeks ago, confirming that it will now launch on schedule. The next big gaming launch of the year before GTA 6 comes when Insomniac Games releases its next big Marvel project, Wolverine, starring Liam McIntyre as the new Logan. This will be Insomniac’s first game since Spider-Man 2 in 2023. The biggest release of 2026 so far came not long ago with the premiere of 007 First Light, the Patrick Gibson-starring James Bond game developed by IO Interactive, the same studio behind the Hitman games.

There have been plenty of big gaming properties to emerge in the last 10 years, but few have become as popular as Cyberpunk 2077, which launched in 2020 as one of the most problematic releases in modern gaming history. The game has since found redemption with quality of life updates, DLCs like Phantom Liberty, and even a Netflix TV show returning for Season 2 this year. CD Projekt Red has confirmed it’s working on another Cyberpunk game, but with The Witcher 4 being understandably prioritized over the new Cyberpunk game, it’s unlikely it will be released anytime in the next few years. Still, Cyberpunk fans do have a new release coming much sooner to be excited about, as it was recently announced over on GameFound that Cyberpunk 2077: The Board Game is expected to launch before the end of 2027.

What Is ‘Cyberpunk 2077: The Board Game’?

Cyberpunk 2077: The Board Game is a new sci-fi expansion launching in 2027, and it will be the first time in franchise history that the property has been adapted into tabletop format. The crowdfunded project has already raised an impressive $11.8 million from over 32,000 backers, giving the game a more expensive budget to work with than many other projects in the same genre. Tabletop may not be every gamer’s style, but this new release is perfect for fans who just can’t wait for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel before experiencing new content from Night City. The official description for the game reads as follows:

“Welcome to Night City, the metropolis of the future. Here, the local blends with the global, and the past, present, and future merge into one. ‘It's a blitz through the underbelly of this city, where you fight, hack, and hustle your way to the top. Just like the good old days.'

Each Player controls one Character – an Edgerunner. With the guidance of the App and the Locations Map, Players will decide which Mission to take. Through a series of real-time Fights and Cooldowns between them, Players must complete the Main Objectives provided by the Mission card’s description. Each Character has a deck with Action cards and unique features specific to them.

The main part of the game will happen in Sequential Timed Action Phase Fight segments, managed by the App. After the signal, Players look at their hands, choose an Active Player, and play their turns one after the other, starting with the Active Player, until the time runs out.”
