With the World Cup having come to an end, the focus for several national teams now shifts to finding a new manager, with Pep Guardiola available.
Germany have seemingly already made a big-name signing for their managerial role, being on the verge of signing Jürgen Klopp to replace Julian Nagelsmann.
While it is unlikely that Germany will be the only country to seek a new manager, they might be one of the few to secure a name as big as Klopp.
Of course, the biggest name on the market at the moment is Pep Guardiola, after the Spaniard left Manchester City at the end of the season, but it is unclear what his next move could be.
A move to international coaching seems to be the most likely move for Guardiola at this stage in his career, having won almost everything there is to win in club football with three of the most successful teams of all time.
The Spaniard’s case seems similar to that of Jürgen Klopp, who left Liverpool at the end of the 2024 season and has only returned to coaching now, after saying he would never coach another club in England due to his allegiances to Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola seems to be in the same boat due to his allegiances to Manchester City, and the majority of the football world would not blame him for moving to the international stage.
It has been reported that Guardiola is in talks with several suitors, including former World Cup winners Italy, who have been struggling on the international stage for a number of years. It is claimed that the Italians are one of several national teams that have contacted Guardiola.
The Netherlands are thought to be one of them as they seek to replace Ronald Koeman, with England also in the running after they wanted to appoint the Spaniard in 2024, although that scenario would be unlikely given Thomas Tuchel’s current contract.
If Guardiola were to secure a national team job, such as the Italian role, he and Jürgen Klopp could reignite one of football’s greatest coaching rivalries, potentially meeting as coaches once again in the near future.
