Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett wants a raise. The Arizona Cardinals want to give him one. So why hasn't it happened yet?
ESPN and NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport reported on July 21 – one day before players are to report to Arizona's training camp – that Brissett and the Cardinals still had not resolved the quarterback's contract situation.
"My understanding of the situation is the Arizona Cardinals are in agreement that Jacoby Brissett deserves more money," Rapoport said. "The two sides have been negotiating for several months. They have not yet agreed on a number, but they do believe he is due a new deal and deserves one."

Brissett, 33, is due to make less than $5 million in salary in 2026. The max value of his deal is $5.39 million this year, but only $1.5 million is guaranteed.
The veteran journeyman is the Cardinals' presumed starter in 2026 after making 12 starts for the Cardinals last year. Arizona released former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray at the start of free agency before signing quarterback Gardner Minshew and drafting quarterback Carson Beck in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Brissett, who serves as his own agent, initially requested an extension in April, after the Cardinals released Murray. The 10-year veteran did not attend the first phase of the Cardinals' offseason workouts, which were optional, as he sought his new deal, but he did attend mandatory minicamp in June.
Rapoport said on July 21 that a holdout from Brissett was unlikely as it would mean sacrificing guaranteed money. The insider characterized a "hold-in" as the more likely outcome for the veteran quarterback, barring a deal coming together before training camp begins on July 22.
"The fact that he was there at mandatory minicamp certainly makes me think that holding out probably not in the cards for Jacoby Brissett," Rapoport said.
