CNN data guru says this potential 2028 Dem nominee is up like a Hotlanta rocket while Newsom chances tumble

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten declared Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) is “up like a Hotlanta rocket” in multiple areas which has made him a serious 2028 contender.

Enten joined John Berman on Wednesday morning where he noted Ossoff’s major rise in Kalshi prediction markets. Another potential 2028 Democratic presidential nominee, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D), has meanwhile seen his chances tumble.

According to Kalshi numbers, as of Wednesday morning, Ossoff’s 2028 chances have risen from 5% in January to 16% today. In that same period, Newsom’s chances have dropped from 35% to 18% today. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) follows the two men, seeing her chances jump from 10% in January to 15% now.

“Gavin Newsom’s numbers have absolutely tumbled in the Kalshi prediction markets. An 18% chance. Still, maybe the nominal leader. But look who is up like a Hotlanta rocket, up to a 16% chance to be the 2028 Democratic nominee, Jon Ossoff, the senator from the great state of Georgia. AOC is right behind him at 15%. But the real mover, at least in terms of looking forward at this very early look, is Jon Ossoff, tripling his chances from 5%, actually more than tripling to up to 16% chance,” Enten reported.

He also noted that Google searches for Ossoff are up 300% this July compared to last July. It’s the most Google searches Ossoff has ever received.

“So it’s not just interest within Georgia. It is interest in Jon Ossoff nationally. And that is one of the reasons why he is, of course, making a lot of news. And also one of the reasons why he’s climbing those Kalshi prediction markets is because he’s making a lot of news,” Enten said.

He also pointed to Ossoff’s healthy lead in his Senate reelection campaign, noting a Fox News poll where the Democrat is up 13%. A strong win in a swing state like Florida, Enten argued, would be a good sign for the Dems in 2028.

Enten finally pointed to Ossoff’s impressive fundraising, with the candidate recently bringing in more than $77 million.

“Look at this. $77 million top fundraiser for Senate this century. Money is what makes a presidential bid go, and he’s shown an ability to raise a lot of it as the top fundraiser this cycle,” Enten said.
