The Chicago Bears-Green Bay Packers has been revived in all of its glory, where the Bears have finally made things competitive with their arch rivals in head coach Ben Johnson's first season, where Chicago won two of three games and made it clear that Green Bay won't be able to roll over them anymore.
It's always been a heated rivalry, which has included shots from both sides, including Johnson instigating a "Packers suck" chant in the postgame locker room after Chicago defeated Green Bay in the wild-card playoffs, as well as his infamous handshake with Matt LaFleur. But you could say one one moment before the 2025 season really set the tone for the rivalry when former Packers linebacker Clay Matthews took to the stage on draft night in Green Bay and announced to a raucous crowd that "the Bears still suck."
Unfortunately, it was all downhill for the Packers in their rivalry against the Bears, where they were one Caleb Williams interception away from being swept in three meetings against Chicago. Matthews made it clear that it's not fun on the losing side.
"I was upset last year," Matthews said on the "Bussin with the Boys" podcast. "So, do I feel the pain? No, but I feel like if I'm going to go up there on draft night and say what I said, you can't just be like, 'Haha, I don't care. It's nothing. We've got a Super Bowl.' So, yes, I was a little upset."
In fact, Bears fans aren't letting Matthews live his comments down after Chicago's successful 2025 season, detailing one experience at the post office.
"The lady looked at me and she’s like, 'You’re good to go.' I said, 'I’m all good?' She says, 'Oh yeah..do the Bears still suck?' and I was like damn. So I'm getting that a lot lately."
With the Bears-Packers rivalry back in full force, there are expected to be plenty more shots from both sides heading into 2026, where Chicago is looking to defend its NFC North title as Green Bay looks for its first division title since Jordan Love took over as starting quarterback in 2023.
