Braden Peters — the content creator known online as Clavicular — is speaking out about his hospitalization earlier this year.

In April, the 20-year-old controversial “looksmaxxing” streamer was taken to the emergency room after he appeared to pass out during a livestream in Miami. In clips from the livestream, fellow content creator Androgenic, seated next to him, asked him, “When did you last take blue?” as Peters’ head appeared to slump forward. The incident was widely reported as a suspected overdose.

On several instances since, Peters has pledged to stop taking “substances” in the wake of the incident, and during a May 13 interview with Logan Paul, he admitted while discussing the hospital visit that he had been “overdoing” his relationship with “stimulants.”

But in an interview on Hang Out with Sean Hannity, published on July 21, Peters addressed the hospitalization, slamming reports that he had overdosed.

“I just literally had not eaten that day and consumed too much alcohol and just knocked out a bit,” he told Hannity when asked to recount the incident. “I didn’t overdose or anything.”

Continued Peters: “People are acting like they’ve never passed out from drinking a little too much at 20 years old. Happens literally all the time in college, so it wasn’t a big thing. It got misreported.”

The internet personality, who is known by millions of followers as a member of the “looksmaxxing” community — a controversial sect of the internet populated by young men who strive to maximize their attractiveness in often extreme ways — has regularly drawn criticism for a string of extremist and, at times, overtly racist acts on his livestreams, including the regular use of a racist slur and admitting to using illegal drugs, including meth, to maintain his appearance.

Peters has also been embroiled in legal trouble over the past several months.

He was arrested on battery charges in March after he reportedly provoked a fight between two women and then posted the video online.

In April, influencer Alorah Ziva sued Peters for allegations of battery, fraud and intentional infliction of emotional distress, per a complaint obtained by PEOPLE. (Through his attorney, Peters previously denied the claims and disputed the “characterization of events.”)

Peters was also charged in May with a misdemeanor over an accusation that he “did unlawfully and knowingly discharge a firearm” at the Francis Taylor Everglades Wildlife Management Area in the Everglades, Fla. He pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge and agreed to six months of probation, 20 hours of community service, and the mandatory completion of a firearms safety course and fish and wildlife course.
