SEC Network’s Chris Doering ranked his Top Five SEC QBs going into the 2026 college football season. The former Florida wide receiver had an interesting list compared to most.

So without further ado, let’s dive into Doering’s list, as revealed on Tuesday’s edition of SEC This Morning. We’ll go from No. 5 to 1.
5. Marcel Reed, Texas A&M
Reed kicks off this elite group of SEC QBs for Doering. Based on what he did last season, Reed could very well get this Aggies’ squad back to the CFP.
Reed threw for 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 62.1% completion percentage to go along with 493 rushing yards and six rushing scores. It’ll help that he has Mario Craver at WR this season!
4. Byrum Brown, Auburn
Brown followed his coach, Alex Golesh, from USF to Auburn to play in the SEC. This QB was highly productive with the Bulls.
Last year, Brown had 3,158 yards, 28 touchdowns, seven interceptions, a 66.3% completion percentage, 1,008 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Over the course of his career, Brown has 7,690 passing yards, 61 touchdowns, 19 interceptions, a 64.8% completion percentage, 2,265 rushing yards and 31 rushing touchdowns.
3. Arch Manning, Texas
Some might consider the best among SEC QBs, but Doering has him third on his list going into 2026. There’s no doubt he struggled to start last season, his first year as a starter. But he improved as the season progressed and turned into a Heisman worthy player.
Manning threw for 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns, seven interceptions, a 61.4% completion percentage, 399 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns in 2025. He has Heisman and national title aspirations this fall.
2. John Mateer, Oklahoma
Mateer being this high among SEC QBs could be a questionable choice from Doering. But when he’s healthy, Mateer is one of the best signal callers in the country.
He was ravaged by a hand injury in 2025, but he still rallied to lead Oklahoma to the CFP, despite his lack of numbers. But as a dual threat QB, Mateer is very dangerous throwing the football and running and making defenders look silly.
1. Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
Doering’s SEC QBs list wraps up with Chambliss at the top. He was granted a sixth year of eligibility for 2026 and will attempt to run it back with the Rebels.
While Lane Kiffin unlocked the best of him last fall, Chambliss will look to keep the good vibes rolling in 2026 with Pete Golding at the helm. Last year, Chambliss threw for 3,973 yards, 22 touchdowns, three interceptions and a 66.1% completion percentage, to go along with 527 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
