While Tiger Woods remains sidelined from the golf course, his son, Charlie Woods, is playing a ton.

Charlie Woods, a Florida State University golf commit, participated in qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Championship over the weekend. Woods was attempting to qualify for the top amateur tournament in the country - one his father often dominated. However, Charlie Woods was unable to play well.

The son of the legendary PGA Tour star was dealt an "unfortunate setback" in his golf career, as he failed to play well enough to qualify for the top U.S. Amateur tournament. He posted a rough score during Thursday's round at the Ohio State University's Scarlet Course.

Charlie Woods finished six strokes out of qualifying, posting a five-over 76 in his final round on Thursday.

The son of the legendary PGA Tour star will not be able to attempt to do what his dad did. Tiger Woods won the U.S. Amateur Championship three consecutive times.

Charlie Woods faces tough setback

While Woods faced a tough setback, he's still got some things to look forward to as he moves ahead this summer.

"Despite the setback, Woods attracted considerable attention during his round, carrying his own bag while competing against 80 other young golfers. Woods is now reportedly turning his focus to the U.S. Junior Amateur, scheduled for later this month at Saucon Valley," the Daily Express shared.

Tiger Woods, meanwhile, continues to be optimistic about his son's career.

"It's fun to be a part of the process with Charlie and go through it and see where the opportunities that he has that he has created for himself by playing better, places that he could play, wants to play and ultimately we'll decide where he wants to go play," Tiger said.
