Cathie Wood and her ARK Invest firm on Friday loaded up on more than $18 million worth of SpaceX as the stock retreated after Elon Musk's rocket company scrubbed its latest Starship test flight. Wood also bought more shares of AeroVironment and Kratos Defense as she shored up her defense holdings.
SPCX stock fell again Monday, notching fresh lows. AVAV stock and KTOS shares diverged with slight gains and losses, though both remain in significant downtrends.
Cathie Wood and ARK InvestARKK on Friday bought 147,805 shares of SpaceXSPCX, worth roughly $18.33 million based on the stock's closing price of 123.99.
The firm added 95,129 shares to the flagship ARK Innovation ETF, making it the sixth-largest holding at 4.43% of the fund. Wood added 30,646 shares to the ARK Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETFARKQ. SpaceX is the third-largest holding for the ARKQ ETF at 5.87% of the fund.
ARK bought 9,419 shares for the ARK Next Generation Internet ETFARKW and 12,611 shares for the ARK Space & Defense ETFARKX.
SpaceX accounts for 3.19% of the ARKW ETF, making it the 11th-largest holding. SpaceX stock is the top holding for the ARKX ETF and represents 7.99% of the fund.
SPCX Hits New Lows After Scrubbed Test Flight
The purchases come as SpaceX stock fell on Friday after aborting test flight 13 for its Starship rocket late Thursday. During the Thursday attempt, SpaceX scrubbed the mission during the launch countdown as some of the engines didn't start, Elon Musk said in a social media post. The company is removing and replacing two of the Raptor engines ahead of the next launch.
SpaceX now plans to launch its Starship test flight 13 on Thursday, July 23. The 90-minute launch window will open at 5:45 p.m. CT, according to the mission briefing page.
The flight will still attempt the same tests from the scrubbed mission last week.
SpaceX stock fell another 3.3% Monday, hitting a new closing low of 119.85. In afternoon action, SPCX stock inched off its new intraday low of 119.68.
Shares fell more than 5% on Friday following the Starship flight halt, capping a 14.7% weekly plunge that pushed shares below the $135 IPO price.
SPCX stock is now about 47% off its June 16 high of 225.64.
Cathie Wood Boosts Defense Holdings With AeroVironment, Kratos
Cathie Wood on Friday also increased her holdings of AeroVironmentAVAV and Kratos DefenseKTOS across the ARK Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF and the ARK Space & Defense ETF.
ARK purchased a total of 37,077 shares of AeroVironment across the two funds, worth $5.27 million based on AVAV's 142.20 closing price. AeroVironment accounts for 2.57% of the ARKQ ETF, making it the No. 14 holding for the fund. AVAV stock is the eighth-largest holding for the ARKX ETF at 4.36%.
The firm bought 115,812 shares of Kratos Defense on Friday, worth $5.33 million based on the 43.02 closing price. Kratos is the fifth-largest holding for the ARKQ ETF at 5.53% of the fund. The stock represents 6.05% of the ARKX ETF, making it the third-largest holding.

AVAV stock inched up 0.3% Monday, but still remains well below its key moving averages. Shares have been on a steep downtrend since mid-January with about a 41% tumble on the year.
KTOS stock ticked down 0.2% Monday, reversing after rising slightly in early trade. Shares are on a similar downward trajectory, about 65% off their 2026 highs from late January. Kratos has dived more than 39% in 2026.
