DeChambeau, however, responded with class after completing his par putt, taking time to sign a ball and glove for various spectators before removing his cap and acknowledging the Birkdale crowd with a wave.
Marshals stationed around the 18th green expressed their disapproval, with one suggesting the hostile fans should be ejected.
As DeChambeau approached up the 18th fairway he received an enthusiastic welcome, with both grandstands applauding and demonstrating their support.
However, when he prepared to putt, having chipped onto the green, the jeers erupted, with some spectators yelling "cheat!" at him, echoing similar incidents from Saturday. Friday's rules violation dispute escalated further on Saturday when McIlroy addressed reporters in a post-round mixed zone and criticized DeChambeau, claiming he had 'held the tournament hostage' by threatening to boycott.
Spectators on Sunday called out about DeChambeau during McIlroy's final round, which he completed at one-under for the tournament and far from contention.
DeChambeau, consistent with his approach throughout the week, declined to speak with media following his round, instead telling assembled journalists "have a great night!".
The American then headed directly toward the crowd of waiting fans, where he gave away his hat, signed autographs and spoke with young supporters.
DeChambeau has avoided media engagements all week, except for one interview with Mirror US Sports and a brief video with The RandA, and proceeded straight to the practice range following rounds on Friday and Saturday.
