Browns' Shedeur Sanders discusses his improvements before season

The Cleveland Browns, after an offseason filled with plenty of ups-and-downs, will now look to right their wrongs during the 2026-27 NFL season.

Unfortunately for newly hired head coach Todd Monken, the quarterback position remains the most important question surrounding the organization heading into the upcoming season. Currently, the Browns are in a heated quarterback battle this offseason between second-year Shedeur Sanders and veteran Deshaun Watson, which is set to linger into the team's training camp period. Still, despite the fight for the starting quarterback role, both players continue to make progress prior to the beginning of the season.

When asked about how he has improved throughout the offseason, Sanders told reporters on Sunday at his recent Youth Camp that "everything improved" this offseason.

"If you talk to me, do you feel like I improved? I would say, overall, everything I improved," Sanders claimed. "The way I sleep, the way I breathe, the way I drink water, the way I do everything in my life—I improved. Everything improved."

Will Sanders be named the starting quarterback in 2026?

After being selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Sanders had an uphill battle throughout his first professional season.

At the beginning of last year's training camp, the former highly-touted Colorado quarterback was fourth on the depth chart behind veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, along with fellow 2025 draft selectee Dillon Gabriel. However, Sanders would eventually work his way up to the starting role by the middle of his rookie season, and in his eight games played in 2025, the young playmaker finished with 1,400 passing yards, 10 interceptions and seven touchdowns.

While many fans believed that the Browns would attack the quarterback position in free agency or in the 2026 NFL Draft, general manager Andrew Berry did not make any significant moves, which led to the current ongoing battle between Sanders and Deshaun Watson this offseason. The 30-year-old veteran is coming off an Achilles tear that he sustained midway through the 2024 NFL season.

But after missing the entire 2025 season to rehab his injury, Watson is once again healthy and in the mix to become the Browns' starting quarterback in the team's Week One battle against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
