As the Mets moved toward Major League Baseball's trade deadline, interim manager Andy Green has had to weather questions about the future construction of the team for the remainder of the 2026 season.
The bullpen has been a strength, but it could soon be dismantled to try and fortify the team's cupboard of young talent. Luis Robert Jr. and Clay Holmes have either returned or could soon come back from long-term injuries, but they are among the team's tradeable assets.
With less than two weeks until the day of potential seismic change, the Mets exist in an undercurrent of uncertainty and intrigue about the direction of the team. There will undoubtedly be major change by the Aug. 3 trade deadline and it will likely hinge on young talent flooding the Mets system after last season's failed sell-off.

It is not a rebuild, as the Mets will want to be poise to enter contention in the near future. More MLB-ready prospects could be sought after rather than high-upside gambles.
With that in mind, here are where some of the top World Series contender's farm systems stand and how they could potentially lead to hatching a deal with the Mets. (Prospect rankings are based on MLB Pipeline's ranking. Prospects in Triple A or MLB are in bold.)
Los Angeles Dodgers
Team needs: Back end rotation, bullpen depth
Top 100 prospects: OF Josue De Paula (No. 4), OF Mike Sorota (No. 11), OF Zyhir Hope (No. 19), OF Eduardo Quintero (No. 30), SS Emil Morales (No. 45), RHP River Ryan (No. 67), OF Charles Davalan (No. 83), RHP Christian Zazueta (No. 85), 1B/OF James Tibbs III (No. 91)
Best of rest: LHP Jackson Ferris, LHP Adam Serwinowski, LHP Zach Root
Team needs: Bullpen depth
Could they be partners: The Dodgers have one of the deepest farm systems in all of Major League Baseball, paired with the deep pockets to take on more money that other teams might balk at. While the lineup remains a strength, there remains injury concern within the club's pitching staff.
The Dodgers' top two arms in their bullpen (Tanner Scott and Alex Vesia) are left-handers, while Edwin Diaz might be nearing a return. Beyond that, they have a number of unproven commodities in middle relief and could stand to reinforce that segment.
Milwaukee Brewers
Team needs: Back end rotation, bullpen depth
Top 100 prospects: SS Jesus Made (No. 1), INF Luis Peña (No. 18), SS Cooper Pratt (No. 53), OF Luis Lara (No. 64), UTIL Jett Williams (No. 78), OF Josh Adamczewski (No. 90)
Best of rest: 3B Andrew Fisher, C Jeferson Quero, RHP Bishop Letson, C Marco Dinges, 1B/3B Luke Adams, OF Braylon Pane
Could they be partners: While the Brewers have one of the contenders for the NL Cy Young in Jacob Misiorowski, there are questions behind him, aside from Kyle Harrison who recently landed on the IL with elbow soreness.
Maybe a veteran presence like Freddy Peralta or Clay Holmes could reinforce a young unit. The Brewers have a number of controllable rookie arms in Robert Gasser or Logan Henderson who could also fill an immediate void.
Tampa Bay Rays
Team needs: Bullpen, outfield
Top 100 prospects: OF Theo Gillen (No. 9), C Nathan Flewelling (No. 71), C Caden Bodine (No. 92)
Best of rest: RHP Brody Hopkins, OF Jacob Melton, SS Daniel Pierce, RHP Anderson Brito, RHP TJ Nichols, RHP Michael Forret, RHP Santiago Suarez
Why it could work: The Rays have one of the top farm systems in all of baseball and this could be their chance to go for it in a week American League, which they currently lead with a 57-42 record.
The one clear area of need could be the bullpen beside closer Bryan Baker, who has been a clear present surprise. The unit on the whole has the 17th-best ERA in the bottom of the league. Theyt have a number of pitching prospectgs who could pique the Mets interest.
New York Yankees
Team needs: Catcher, infield, bullpen depth
Top 100 prospects: INF George Lombard Jr. (No. 20), SS Dax Kilby (No. 58), RHP Elmer Rodriguez (No. 73), RHP Carlos Lagrange (No. 80)
Best of rest: RHP Ben Hess, OF Spencer Jones, RHP Bryce Cunningham, RHP Chase Hampton, RHP Thatcher Hurd, LHP Pico Kohn, LHP Kyle Carr, SS/2B Core Jackson
Could they be partners: While the Yankees' high-leverage equation appears to be settled, they could benefit from another dependable arm in the mid- to late innings. Could a Luke Weaver reunion, including his year of team control, make sense to bolster the unit?
The Yankees have David Bednar, Tim Hill and Paul Blackburn poised for free agency. Meanwhile, the Yankees have a host of arms that are on the precipice of seeing regular time in the major leagues.
Atlanta Braves
Team needs: Starting pitcher, middle relief
Top 100 prospects: LHP Cam Caminiti, OF Eric Hartman, 2B/SS Tate Southisene
Best of rest: SS Alex Lodise, RHP Owen Murphy, LHP Briggs McKenzie, OF Diego Tornes, RHP Lucas Braun, SS John Gil, RHP Luke Sinnard, RHP Garrett Baumann
Could they be partners: It seems hard to imagine that two NL East rivals would hatch a meaningful deal that could help one inch closer to a championship, but the Braves could stand to fortify their pitching staff if they hope to make a deep run, with Chris Sale standing out as the lone difference maker and uncertainty with the statuses of Spencer Strider, Spencer Schwellenbach and AJ Smith-Shawver.
As with most teams, one more leverage arm could also benefit them in the postseason.
Seattle Mariners
Team needs: Right-handed bat, middle relief
Top 100 prospects: LHP Kade Anderson (No. 5), RHP Ryan Sloan (No. 8), OF Lazaro Montes (No. 26), 2B/OF Michael Arroyo (No. 41), OF Jonny Farmelo (No. 60), SS Felnin Celesten (No. 70)
Best of rest: C Luke Stevenson, SS Nick Becker, OF Yorger Bautista, RHP Griffin Hugus
Could they be partners: The Mariners' biggest issue has been their offensive production, with a unit that is second-to-last in team batting average and fourth-worst in runs scored. They could soon be getting some help with the return of Brendan Donovan, who could provide a veteran presence to a young middle infield.
A move to pad the bullpen could be a move out of luxury rather than necessity. But it could be big in a wide-open American League.
Chicago Cubs
Team needs: Starting pitching, bullpen help
Top 100 prospects: SS Jefferson Rojas (No. 63), 1B/OF Josiah Hartshorn (No. 74), RHP Jaxon Wiggins (No. 88)
Best of rest: OF Ethan Conrad, OF Kane Kepley, 1B Jonathan Long, 2B/OF James Triantos, C Owen Ayers, 2B/3B Juan Capada, RHP Kaleb Wing
Could they be partners: The Mets and Cubs have already made one deal this season as David Peterson was shipped out of Flushing for first base prospect Cole Mathis. Peterson's struggles have grown in Chicago.
The Cubs are middle of the pack in ERA among their rotation (18th) and bullpen (15th) and could stand to continue to add in those segments at the deadline. The Mets have some options they can provide.
Philadelphia Phillies
Team needs: Bullpen/outfield help
Top 100 prospects: SS Aidan Miller (No. 28), RHP Gage Wood (No. 50), OF Francisco Renteria (No. 89)
Best of rest: OF Dante Nori, OF Gabriel Rincones, LHP Cade Obermueller, RHP Moises Chace, RHP Ramon Marquez, RHP Matthew Fisher
Could they be partners: Another case of it will be a challenge to deal with the enemy, but the Phillies will be looking to add to their bullpen following the season-ending injury to Brad Keller - one of their top offseason acquisitions. Their bullpen has the 22nd ERA in baseball and is a clear area of need.
The Phillies' outfield is young and unproven, pressed into action following the season-ending injury to Adolis Garcia. Could this be a potential fit for Robert?
Boston Red Sox
Team needs: Pitching depth
Top 100 prospects: SS Franklin Arias (No. 7), RHP Anthony Eyanson (No. 51), OF Justin Gonzales (No. 82)
Best of rest: RHP Kyson Witherspoon, RHP Juan Valera, SS Dorian Soto, RHP Marcus Phillips, 2B Henry Godbout, OF Enddy Azocar, C/1B Franklin Primera
Could they be partners: The Red Sox have reentered the buying conversation with a 14-game win streak entering Tuesday that has thrust them into the final American League wild card spot. Now, their ownership must decide whether it is worth dipping into their farm system to try and make a run.
Questions persist in the rotation, with Garrett Crochet (shoulder/lat) yet to resume throwing and Connelly Early working back from elbow inflammation.
Cleveland Guardians
Team needs: Outfield, pitching depth
Top 100 prospects: 1B/OF Ralphy Velazquez (No. 35), SS Angel Genao (No. 40), C Cooper Ingle (No. 59), RHP Braylon Doughty (No. 93), OF Jaison Chourio (No. 96), Juneiker Caceres (No. 97)
Best of rest: RHP Khal Stephen, OF Jace LaViolette, RHP Joey Oakie, SS Welbyn Francisca
Why it could work: The Guardians are in the hunt in the AL Central, hunting the White Sox, behind an upstart starting rotation led by Gavin Williams and Parker Messick.
Their biggest need comes at the plate, where the Mets don't have as many tradeable assets, but bullpen could be fortified as well.
