It’s been almost three full months since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first announced the dairy contamination that would lead to multiple recalls: Ghirardelli chocolate products, multiple potato chip brands, ingredients in Costco, Chik-fil-a, and Aldi products, and more were removed from market when Salmonella was said to have been discovered in milk powder, a flavoring and texturing ingredient.
Unless you have to be vigilant not to consume milk for health reasons, you may not have been aware that milk powder appears in so many seasoning products. We’ve covered five seaoning recall updates related to this one traceback investigation. This week, the FDA revealed yet another.
Pork King Good, LLC is a Milwaukee County, WI-based food producer making pork rinds and pork-rind based products targeted at the low-carb and keto diet crowds. Their site lists product categories such as breadcrumbs, “chicken puggets” (nuggets with a pork rind breading), and seasoning blends.
On July 14, the FDA published a report that one of those seasonings, “onion & sour cream flavor” reportedly sold in three-ounce bottles, was among the first wave of products recalled in April in connection with the California Dairy milk powder issue. A May 5 FDA post stated the company was not aware of specific injuries or illness related to their supply chain, but out of an abundance of caution they were participating in testing and working with retail partners to ensure possibly affected product was removed from market.

This week, apparently following an investigation, the FDA assigned the seasoning recall with its highest-level risk: Class I, indicating “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.” The recall also appears to be listed as “completed.”
