Advanced Micro DevicesAMD and Cerebras SystemsCBRS on Wednesday separately announced partnerships related to their AI chips. AMD stock and Cerebras stock rose on the news as semiconductor stocks overall advanced.
AMD disclosed a strategic partnership with AI giant Anthropic, known for its Claude artificial intelligence tools. Under the deal, Anthropic will deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series graphics processing units (GPUs) in AMD Helios rack-scale computer systems. The companies expect to deploy the first gigawatt of capacity in the first half of 2027.
Further, AMD committed to making an equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic.
On Monday, AMD announced that MicrosoftMSFT will deploy the chipmaker's Helios systems to power frontier model AI inference for Microsoft, its AI customers and support Microsoft Azure AI services. The deal is an expansion of AMD's existing partnership with Microsoft.
AMD will begin shipping Helios to customers, including Microsoft, in the second half of 2026.
AMD's "win list" in AI chip deals now includes Anthropic, Meta PlatformsMETA, Microsoft, OpenAI and OracleORCL, TD Cowen analyst Joshua Buchalter said in a client note. He reiterated his buy rating on AMD stock with a price target of 675.
AMD Stock Climbs On Partner Deals
In afternoon trades on the stock market today, AMD stock rose more than 2% to 556.45.
"Over the past several months, AMD has assembled an increasingly credible roster of Instinct and Helios customers," Buchalter said. "Collectively, these wins further validate AMD's ability to compete for some of the industry's largest and most demanding AI training and inference deployments, while reinforcing our view that these customer relationships should be increasingly viewed as multi-generation strategic engagements rather than isolated product-cycle wins."
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Cerebras announced a strategic partnership with cybersecurity firm CrowdStrikeCRWD. Under the deal, CrowdStrike will leverage Cerebras's AI inference chips to power its Falcon AI Detection and Response.
Cerebras stock on Wednesday climbed more than 3% to 216.41.
Semiconductor Stocks Rise
In other semiconductor news, QualcommQCOM on Wednesday announced an expanded collaboration with consumer electronics giant Samsung Electronics. Samsung will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips to power its latest Galaxy product lineup of smartphones, watches and intelligence eyewear.
Qualcomm stock rose nearly 2% to 176.28 in recent trades on Wednesday.
In afternoon trades on Wednesday, the Philadelphia semiconductor index, known as SOX, rose more than 1%.
The next catalyst for AMD stock is the company's Advancing AI 2026 event scheduled for Thursday.
AMD stock is on three IBD stock lists: IBD 50, Big Cap 20 and Tech Leaders.
