Adam Driver has turned down so many Marvel movies it’s become a ‘tradition,’ Kevin Feige says

Kevin Feige is opening up about his often yet fruitless attempts to bring Adam Driver into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, revealed that Driver has rejected so many of Feige’s proposed Marvel projects that it’s almost like a shared ritual between the two. Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Feige detailed his almost-working relationship with Driver over the years.

“Adam Driver — you’ve had conversations with him over a number of characters,” said host Josh Horowitz, as Feige replied, “Many. Many, many, many.”

“It’s no secret we’d like to [get Driver for a project],” Feige added, “but it’s a tradition to Zoom with him, and then he passes. That’s a long-lived tradition.”

Despite the steady stream of rejections from Driver, Feige said there are no hard feelings toward the actor. “He couldn’t be more cordial. He is usually upfront about how he’s feeling,” Feige said.

Driver is perhaps best known for his role in the Star Wars franchise’s sequel trilogy — The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019) — as primary antagonist Kylo Ren. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Driver was working on a standalone film about his Star Wars character with director Steven Soderbergh before Disney pulled the plug on the project.

While he’s firmly established his skill in sci-fi and fantasy roles, Driver has taken on a wide range of roles across his vast filmography. In years past, he’s starred in House of Gucci (2021) as the ill-fated Maurizio Gucci and in Marriage Story (2019) as soon-to-be divorcee Charlie Barber.

On Happy Sad Confused, Feige also reflected on another pitfall plaguing Marvel at the moment: the long-delayed Blade reboot that would have starred Mahershala Ali, that was eventually removed from Disney’s theatrical release calendar in fall 2024.

Though he’s glad he was able to bring the original Blade, played by Wesley Snipes, for another Marvel film, Feige said he still beats himself up for his failed project with Ali.

“I’m feeling very excited that we got Wesley back for a time in Deadpool & Wolverine and like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala,” Feige said, joking that his regrets may need their own “therapy session.”
