The shiny look of a Missouri Lottery ticket allowed for a player to win a massive reward off a small risk.
Missouri Lottery announced July 16 that an anonymous woman won $100,000 off a scratchers game called $2,000,000 Bankroll. The $20 ticket was purchased at a BP gas station, 8025 Hickman Mills Drive, in Kansas City. According to the winner, she was drawn by the ticket’s shiny design.
“I was shocked, but I was able to keep it quiet until I got out to my car to call my husband,” she told Missouri Lottery. This is the first $100,000 prize to be claimed off the $20 game.
Missouri Lottery is required to withhold a 4% state tax on prizes of $600.01 or more, as well as a 24% federal tax for prizes of more than $5,000. Depending on their personal income, winners may owe additional taxes.
According to Missouri Lottery, retailers that sell winning Scratcher and Draw Games tickets receive a bonus that equals 2% of the prize up to $600 by meeting certain game and sales criteria.
In the 2025 fiscal year, Jackson County players won over $96.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, while retailers received over $8.9 million in commissions and bonuses.
