Authorities have revealed new information surrounding 18-year-old Kaylee Hottle‘s death in a tragic car crash.
According to a statement from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and emergency crews responded to a crash at approximately 2:52 a.m. in the 11400 block of Windsor Road in Ijamsville, Md. Investigators said she was a passenger in a 1995 Honda Accord driven by an unnamed 19-year-old Frederick man.
Preliminary investigation indicates the driver veered off the right side of the two-lane road before the vehicle struck a culvert. The Godzilla vs. Kong star was one of two passengers and was transported to a nearby trauma center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The second passenger declined treatment at the scene, and authorities reported the driver did not sustain life-threatening injuries.
Investigators attribute the crash to excessive speed and are continuing to determine why the vehicle left the roadway.
TMZ first reported that Hottle’s father, Joshua, confirmed her death following critical injuries sustained in the accident on Tuesday, July 21. He told the outlet he was initially informed of her involvement in a serious accident, and later learned from authorities that her heart stopped en route to the hospital.
The Texas School for the Deaf, where Hottle attended as a senior, honored the late actress in a statement on Facebook.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that one of our TSD seniors, Kaylee Hottle, tragically passed away yesterday in a car accident in Frederick, Maryland,” the school wrote.
The school added, “Our hearts are with Kaylee’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew and loved her during this incredibly difficult time.”
They also urged people to “respect the privacy of Kaylee’s family and refrain from sharing or speculating about the circumstances surrounding the accident.”
Millie Bobby Brown also posted a black-and-white photo of her Godzilla vs. Kong costar on her Instagram Stories. “I’m so devastated to hear this. You will be deeply missed Kaylee,” the 22-year-old wrote on the picture.
Brown and Hottle co-starred as Madison Russell and Jia, respectively, in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.
