A gathering for people named Brian is coming to Batavia this summer, inviting Brians — and anyone who knows one — to celebrate their shared name.
The Brian Meetup will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Eli Fish Brewing Company, 109 Main St., in downtown Batavia.
A celebration years in the making
According to lead organizer Brian Kemp, the idea for the event has been in the works for years.
"Throughout my whole life, I would meet Brians and we always had this instant connection," Kemp said.
While the event is centered on people named Brian, it's open to everyone. Organizers even encourage guests to "BYOB" — bring your own Brian.
What to expect at The Brian Meetup
The event will feature:
- Live music by acoustic singer-songwriter Brian Crawford
- Games, including Knoggle and cornhole
- A group photo of all the Brians in attendance
- Awards for superlatives such as "Brian with the longest hair" and "Brian who traveled the farthest"
Attendees can also purchase special Brian-themed food and drinks created for the event, including:
- "Call a Brian" pizza, featuring Calabrian sausage
- "Brian with an A" beer, brewed with Anchovy hops and offering watermelon, candy and pine flavor notes
- "Breaking Bryan" cocktail, inspired by actor Bryan Cranston and the TV series "Breaking Bad"
The meetup will be followed by a performance by The Zach Gerken Band at 7 p.m. in Jackson Square as part of the Summer Sounds and Grooves concert series.

Registration is open through Aug. 10 at TheBrianMeetup.com.
Tickets cost $25 and include a drink token, a commemorative party cup and an official event T-shirt. Tickets are not required to attend the meetup, and event merchandise designed by Kemp is also available through the website.
