A new report is highlighting Alabama’s pivotal role in the auto industry.
Two lobbying groups, Autos Drive America (ADA) and the American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA), are out with their 2026 Economic Impact Report, finding that automakers over the last 30-plus years have invested $15.6 billion into the state’s economy.
Last year, 105,806 people worked in the auto industry in the state, collectively earning roughly $8.3 billion in compensation.
And over the same period, those workers - at Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing and Toyota - produced 1.16 million vehicles.
Jennifer Safavian, President and CEO of Autos Drive America, said “Alabama has become one of the most important manufacturing hubs for international automakers in America.”
“Trade volatility created real headwinds for our industry in 2025, but our members’ steadfast commitment to Alabama cushioned that impact for the workers and communities who depend on this industry. Without it, the picture here would look very different,” Safavian said.
The state’s automakers also exported 21 vehicle models to 36 countries and territories in 2025.
