However, other foods may provide more essential nutrients. Watercress is often ranked among the most nutrient-dense vegetables available. In a CDC-backed nutrient density analysis, watercress ranked highest among 41 "powerhouse" fruits and vegetables, including lettuce. Its score was based on its high concentration of vitamins and minerals relative to its calorie content.
