Project Hail Mary has been, without a doubt, one of the most successful movies of the year. And after its massive box office success, the film is continuing to top the streaming charts on Prime Video once again this week. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and adapted from Andy Weir’s 2021 novel, the movie stars Ryan Gosling as a science teacher who wakes up in space with no memory of how he got there. The film is an excellent watch, particularly for sci-fi fans, but if that’s not quite what you’re in the mood for, there are still plenty more options to explore on the streaming service. ‘A Fistful Of Dollars’ (1964)
Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars is a legendary western film starring Clint Eastwood in his first major role. Unofficially adapted from Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo, the movie follows an unnamed stranger (Eastwood) who arrives at a frontier town divided by a bitter feud between rival families and decides to play both sides against each other to make some money. Besides Eastwood, the film also features Gian Maria Volonté, Marianne Koch, Wolfgang Lukschy, and more in key roles.
Though it’s now regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, A Fistful of Dollars was not very well-received by the critics of its time, but it still became a box office success, kicking off Leone’s iconic Dollars Trilogy. With its sweeping landscapes, morally complex characters, archetypical narrative, and rousing score by the legendary Ennio Morricone, the movie is one of the most quintessential Westerns of all, and a must-watch for genre fans. It’s also the movie that made Clint Eastwood a star, and its climactic twist still holds up today.
‘How to Train Your Dragon’ (2025)
A live-action remake of the 2010 animated fantasy film, 2025’s How to Train Your Dragon was written and directed by Dean DeBlois, who also co-wrote and directed the original animated movie. Mason Thames stars as Hiccup, the intelligent yet insecure son of a Viking chief living on the Isle of Berk, and the film follows his story as he forms an unexpected and life-changing bond with a dragon. The movie also stars Nico Parker, Gabriel Howell, Julian Dennison, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Peter Serafinowicz, and Nick Frost, with Gerard Butler reprising his role as Stoick the Vast, Hiccup’s father.
We’ve seen a lot of terrible live-action remakes over the years, but How to Train Your Dragon is an exception. The movie premiered last year to critical and commercial success, becoming the second-highest-grossing live-action/animated hybrid of all time and bagging an Annie Award and a BAFTA nomination. Successfully capturing the heartwarming narrative and wondrous spirit of its now-classic original film, the movie is easily one of the best children’s movies of the decade so far, and a sequel is currently expected to arrive in theaters in 2027.
‘Weapons’ (2025)
Directed, written, produced, and co-scored by Zach Cregger, Weapons is a mystery horror film that revolves around the disappearance of 17 children in the small town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania. With the community lost in a state of anger, confusion, and paranoia, the movie explores the interconnected stories of multiple characters that together reveal the workings of a sinister evil power. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Toby Huss, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
While Cregger’s solo directorial debut Barbarian was a solid success, Weapons is the film that catapulted the filmmaker to the top of the horror genre, earning near-universal acclaim from critics and audiences alike. A non-linear, anthology-esque narrative elevated by its excellent cinematography and stellar performances, the movie is easily one of the best horror films of the 2020s. Weapons has been widely praised for its writing, direction, production values, and performances, particularly Amy Madigan’s Academy Award-winning performance as the film’s terrifying villain.
