Overview
The 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross subcompact crossover SUV is fresh from a 2026 refresh and continues as is for MY2027. It’s hardly an exciting car, but that’s not the point. It’s meant to be reliable and efficient transport for small families, and this it does superbly, with 42 MPG combined possible from the hybrids. All variants of the 2027 Corolla Cross use a naturally aspirated 2.0L four-pot, but the gas models produce 169 hp and come in FWD or AWD, while the AWD-only hybrids have 196 hp.

The 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross’ price is expected to increase by a few hundred dollars, but no other changes are pencilled in for MY2027, seeing as the model received a mid-cycle refresh last year.
Exterior
The unassuming styling borders on the dull, but it’s inoffensive and neat. Gas models have a chunky black grille, while hybrids are distinguished by a body-color item. Black body cladding and an 8.0-inch ground clearance beef up the stance a bit. Wheel sizes are either 17 or 18 inches, depending on the trim, and available two-color paint jobs add some variety. A power liftgate is an option on the XLE.
Interior
The cabin is utilitarian and user-friendly, but there are lots of hard plastics, though higher trims get more soft-touch surfaces. Space is at a premium in the second row, but it’s fine for children and adults of smaller stature. Cloth seats give way to SofTex leatherette in upper trims, which also gain features like a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and ambient lighting.
A digital gauge cluster (7.0 inches on base trims and 12.3 inches on top trims) and a multimedia touchscreen (8.0 inches on base trims and 10.5 inches on top trims) are fitted, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Top trims gain access to a JBL audio system.

Among gas variants, the $30K XLE is the best value, with the bigger touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, a power driver’s seat, and 18-inch wheels. Among the hybrids, the SE makes the most sense, providing far better power and economy than the gas car.

The CVT automatic of the gas model has a physical first gear for improved launch response, handing over to the CVT at between 15 and 25 MPH. AWD is available for ~$1,300. The hybrids’ Atkinson-cycle 2.0L engine is assisted by three electric motors.
Performance and 0-60 MPH
The 169-hp gas models take a protracted 8.4 to 9.6 seconds to reach 60 MPH, depending on the trim, drivetrain, and as-tested weight, and need a heavy foot and lots of coarse revving to make meaningful progress. The 196-hp hybrids are far swifter and less buzzy, taking 7.3 to 7.4 seconds to do the same.

AWD System Overview
An automatic AWD system that sends torque to the rear axle when grip is lost is an option on the gas models. The hybrids use a rear electric motor instead to provide eAWD.

The Corolla Cross is an unpretentious subcompact crossover, and what it lacks for in excitement and performance, it makes up for in Toyota reliability and resale value. The hybrids return exceptional economy and far better performance, and are far better to drive, making the Hybrid SE the sweet spot if the budget stretches to ~$33K. The Corolla Cross provides the type of comfort and dependability that families love, but if you want a dynamic driving experience, a Mazda CX-30 may be more up your alley.
