It’s been over 20 years since Avatar: The Last Airbender first premiered, and the franchise is bigger than ever. In addition to constantly releasing new novels and comics to flesh out the story, the live-action series on Netflix has brought a lot of new life to the franchise, and with Avatar even getting both a new animated series and a theatrical film from Avatar Studios, it’s safe to say that it’s even bigger than it was back in the 2000s.
The modern-day popularity of Avatar: The Last Airbender has been great to see, but one part of the franchise that has been mostly absent from that has been Avatar’s original sequel, The Legend of Korra. Despite Korra’s enduring legacy, and likely because of its divisive reputation, it’s largely been excluded from Avatar’s modern renaissance as the franchise has focused on catering to the original series, but 12 years after Korra’s finale, it’s finally getting more respect in a big way.
The Legend Of Korra Is Finally Getting A Revival In 2027
From 2024 to 2026, Avatar: The Last Airbender received a live concert tour from original composer Jeremy Zuckerman and series editor Jeff Adams, appropriately titled Avatar In Concert, to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary and the franchise in general, and it was as big a hit with fans as one would expect. Avatar In Concert is coming to an end, but fortunately, it’s recently been revealed that The Legend of Korra will get its own concert tour in 2027, appropriately titled The Legend of Korra In Concert.
The Legend of Korra In Concert will be done in celebration of the 15th anniversary of Nickelodeon's The Legend of Korra, and just like Avatar In Concert, it will be headed by Jeremy Zuckerman and Jeff Adams and bring live orchestral renditions of some of Korra’s most iconic musical pieces. At the moment, the concert will run from January 10, 2027, to March 9, 2027, although more dates are expected to be announced later in the year.
Even with how big the Avatar franchise has gotten in recent years, most of that has been focused on the original series, with The Legend of Korra mostly being ignored aside from a recent comic starring Mako and Bolin and occasional references to Korra’s story in other installments, and that’s been disappointing for anyone who grew up with Korra and would want to see more of it. Korra getting its own concert run does a lot to fix, though, and with how great Avatar’s concert was, this will hopefully do a lot to revitalize Korra for years to come.
14 Years Later, The Legend Of Korra Still Gets Far Too Much Hate From Fans
While The Legend of Korra is far from a perfect story, both on its own merits and as a sequel to Avatar, much of the criticism of things like the action, the worldbuilding, and overall writing was exaggerated or blatantly untrue, and it often boiled down to people just hating Korra for not being Avatar. Korra herself is still incredibly divisive because she’s seen as a generally unlikable person as opposed to just a flawed character, and that intense level of vitriol is likely why so little has been done with Korra over the years.
The Legend of Korra needs a revival more than the original series so people will start giving it the respect it deserves, and sure enough, Korra getting a massive concert tour on the same level as Avatar: The Last Airbender is the perfect way to get that started. With that in mind, The Legend of Korra In Concert is exciting not just for the music, but for how it can finally get people to see The Legend of Korra as a worthy addition to Avatar: The Last Airbender, and it will be great to see that play out in 2027.
