Nobody hands you a blueprint. The ten people on this list figured that out early, and instead of waiting for permission, they built something anyway. Some started broke, some started scared, all of them started. What follows isn’t a celebration of luck or timing. It’s a look at what happens when stubborn belief meets years of unglamorous work. Watch them closely this year. They’re just getting started.
John Merola: From Real Estate Success to a Second Act in Wellness
Success on paper does not always match how a person feels inside. For years John Merola built a thriving real estate career while quietly carrying grief and a sense that his true purpose lay elsewhere. Today, as Chief Operating Officer of RejuvStem and Vice President of Auragenesis Labs, he has found the meaning that his earlier success never fully delivered.
John Merola grew up in New York City and once expected to become an attorney, earning acceptance to law school before his own lawyer talked him out of it. He joined the real estate business his father had built, and the two became partners and best friends, managing large residential apartment buildings in Brooklyn. When his father’s health declined over years and he passed, john lost not only a partner but the person who made the work meaningful. He shifted into commercial real estate and found success with major national brands, yet the passion never returned.
The turning point came through his own body. A lifelong commitment to the gym had left john with a long list of injuries, and after surgery on a ruptured tricep tendon, a close friend from WWE suggested he look into stem cell treatment. He connected with the team at RejuvStem, and what struck him first was not the science but the care. After years of hard experiences in business, the genuine empathy of the staff felt like a breath of fresh air.
For john Merola, the personal results reshaped his direction entirely. He decided he could not keep the experience to himself, and he joined the company he first visited as a patient, officially moving from patient to partner. Today his mission is simple: help other people and families find relief the way he did.
Sara Rubens: Planting a Second Act, One Seed at a Time
Some of life’s greatest opportunities arrive disguised as setbacks. Sara Rubens learned that at 63, when a call during a vacation in Mexico told her that her position had been eliminated. After nearly five decades in corporate and nonprofit leadership, the ending felt devastating. Looking back, she compares it to planting a seed. At first it disappears into darkness, but given the right conditions, it becomes something entirely new.
What grew from that moment is Seed to Sanctuary, the garden coaching and edible garden design company she founded to teach people how to grow their own food while building a more intentional, connected life. Her path began during the pandemic, when she planted a small kitchen garden simply to have something positive to focus on. The hobby quickly became a source of joy, purpose, and healing, and as she shared it online, people asked her to help create gardens of their own.
What sets Rubens apart is that her work is not really about vegetables. While she teaches people to grow food, her deeper aim is helping them grow healthier, more meaningful lives. She sees the garden as a powerful teacher, where every seed carries a lesson about patience, adaptability, and possibility. She weaves in decades of leadership experience and hard-earned lessons in resilience, including her own path through profound personal loss. As she puts it, “The garden isn’t just about growing. It’s about living. I call that living a garden-centered life.”
Today Rubens has helped more than 140 clients create productive kitchen gardens, with work featured in Southern Living, Martha Stewart, Real Simple, and other national publications. A regular television contributor and the author of A Love Letter for the Garden-Centered Life, she carries one message above all. It is never too late to plant a new seed, and meaningful growth can happen at any stage of life.
Karli Sine: Turning a Personal Health Story Into a No-Judgment Community
Trust in the wellness space is usually built on credentials. Karli Sine built hers on lived experience instead. A former hairstylist and stay-at-home mom to four boys, she began openly sharing her own story in 2023, and that honesty became the foundation of all that followed. When people asked how she did it, she realized she could become for them the guide she never had for herself, back when she was figuring it all out alone.
What sets Karli apart is that she leads as proof, not as an expert talking down to anyone. When she shares about this space, she is not repeating something she read. She is speaking from a personal experience she actually walked through, and that changes how people trust her. She was also one of the earliest creators talking openly about her own experience at a time when very few were, which helped her build an audience around education rather than sales pressure.
At the very center of her brand is what she calls a no judgment zone. Wellness can feel intimidating or salesy, and Karli built the opposite: a space where people feel safe enough to ask the questions they are too embarrassed to ask anywhere else. That warmth is why her community grew first on TikTok, then even larger on Instagram, despite the constant challenge of AI moderation flagging her posts.
Today Karli is an Advanced Executive at EllieMD, connecting people and businesses to licensed telehealth care. She understands this from every angle, the personal side, the business build, and the daily reality of a busy mom running everything from her phone. Her hope for the years ahead is simple. Keep helping people feel more confident in their bodies, and help others build something new for themselves, one honest story at a time.
Aamie Benson: Redefining What Learning Can Make Possible
Most corporate training treats learning as information to deliver and a box to check. Aamie Benson has spent more than a decade proving it can become something far more powerful: a catalyst for better decisions, stronger leadership, and lasting change. An entrepreneur and learning strategist, she is the Founder of Evoke 3, the learning and development consultancy she launched in 2015.
Benson’s approach begins with a distinctly human question. Instead of asking only what information must be included, she asks what someone needs to understand, feel, believe, or do differently. That shift shapes learning that is both accessible and strategically rigorous. She translates complex, highly regulated material without oversimplifying it, aligning each experience with an organization’s goals, culture, and desired outcomes. Her work includes designing high-impact learning experiences and leadership development programs for Fortune 100 companies and other leading organizations.
Her impact has earned national recognition. Benson was named the International Association of Top Professionals’ Top Learning Consultant of the Year for 2025, with the honor featured on the Nasdaq billboard in Times Square. She has also shared her perspective through a nationally televised CNBC feature. Yet she measures success differently: by what her work makes possible for others, whether that is a wiser decision, a stronger leader, or a future seen differently.
That same conviction led to her second venture. Benson founded Mint Minds, a financial literacy and life-readiness program that equips young people to navigate credit, debt, investing, education costs, and career decisions before costly mistakes shape their futures. Benson envisions Mint Minds becoming a nationally recognized model that reaches students in every community, especially schools with limited resources, and eventually young adults navigating major life transitions.
Across both ventures, her vision is clear: education should not simply transfer knowledge. It should create agency and expand what people believe is possible for themselves and others.
Craig Bruce: Helping Successful Leaders Reinvent What’s Next
The flight attendant leaned in, and Craig Bruce expected a drink order. Instead came three blunt words that rocked his world: you look awful. Thirty thousand feet up, settled into his first-class seat after another week on the road, the tears came out of nowhere. Within 24 hours he was in a doctor’s office on ordered bed rest, running conference calls from the bed in quiet defiance of his own body. That was when the truth finally landed. As he puts it, “I was living, but I wasn’t alive.”
By every external measure, Bruce had made it. He spent 25 years as a global consulting partner at a $3.5 billion firm, leading complex talent and compensation strategies through large-scale transformations and mergers, and spent a decade scaling a consulting practice tenfold across ten countries in Latin America. He held the title, the income, and the identity. He was also running on empty.
So he stepped away at his peak, not to retire but to reinvent. Bruce founded Evolve Advisory Group, an executive transformation consultancy for high-performing leaders at a crossroads, and turned his own reinvention into a repeatable method. His Elevate You Blueprint rests on three pillars, Consciousness, Lifestyle, and Community, and refuses the false choices most programs impose: work less or achieve more, support or strength, wellness or excellence.
What sets him apart is that he works executive to executive, not as a coach watching from outside but as someone who once sat in the chair himself. The author of the number one bestselling book The Fulfillment Revolution, Bruce now aims to guide 10,000 leaders over the next decade. As he tells clients, it’s not about working less, it’s about living more. Reclaim the spark. Rewrite the story. Reinvent what’s next.
Joanne Nemerovski: Three Decades and $1.5 Billion in Chicago Luxury Real Estate
The best real estate advisors are not measured by a single sale, but by the clients who keep coming back. That standard has defined Joanne Nemerovski’s career for more than three decades. One of Chicago’s most respected luxury real estate advisors, she has represented over $1.5 billion in residential sales, earning the trust of buyers, sellers, investors, and developers across the city’s most sought-after neighborhoods, from the Gold Coast to Lincoln Park and beyond.
Her path to real estate ran through the law. Before entering the field, Nemerovski practiced as a corporate attorney, developing the analytical thinking, attention to detail, and negotiation expertise that continue to distinguish her approach today. That legal foundation, paired with an entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine passion for helping people, allows her to guide even the most complex, high-stakes transactions with confidence and precision.
What sets Nemerovski apart is how her business is built. The majority of it comes from repeat clients and referrals, a clear reflection of the confidence people place in her guidance, discretion, and consistent results. That loyalty is not accidental. It is the direct product of a deeply personalized approach that combines in-depth market knowledge, innovative marketing strategies, and skilled negotiation to create exceptional outcomes for every client she represents.
The recognition has followed the results. Nemerovski has been consistently named among the nation’s leading real estate professionals, earning honors from RealTrends, The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Magazine, LuxeHome, the Chicago Association of REALTORS, and Five Star Professional. Whether advising on a luxury residence, an investment property, or a new development opportunity, she approaches every transaction with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to exceeding expectations. That dedication to excellence, paired with an enduring passion for Chicago real estate, continues to make her one of the city’s most trusted and accomplished advisors.

Janie Terrazas: The Mindfulness Coach Teaching People That Restoring Joy Is Part of Healing
Most healing work asks people to sit in the heavy. Janie Terrazas built her entire practice on a quieter truth: that laughter, movement, and play belong in the room too. Known as The Mindfulness Coach, she has spent more than a decade teaching people how to reclaim their inner peace, strengthen their relationships, and live from a place of wholeness. As a certified mindfulness instructor, life coach, speaker, and author, she created PazMesa: A Self-Mastery Program—an integrative, evidence-informed framework grounded in one central truth: peace begins within.
Her path into this work was personal long before it was professional. After navigating profound trauma, grief, loss, and years of intentional healing, Terrazas discovered that lasting transformation requires far more than insight or positive thinking. It calls us to engage the mind, body, heart, and spirit as an integrated whole. During one of the most difficult seasons of her life, including a painful divorce, she volunteered in hospice care and learned one of grief’s greatest healing lessons: people don't always need us to have the right words. More often, they need our safe, calm, compassionate presence.
What sets her apart is how she blends science with soul. The PazMesa methodology is built around one guiding philosophy: “Powering Up Your Peace Within.” It integrates mindfulness, neuroscience, nervous system regulation, emotional intelligence, relational psychology, spiritual wisdom, somatic movement, and sound therapy into one cohesive, practical framework. A cornerstone of the program is her signature S.A.F.E. Communication Method, which teaches individuals, couples, and teams to transform conflict and challenges into opportunities for deeper understanding, stronger connection, and lasting trust.
She does not see people as broken or bad. She sees human beings who adapted to survive. Her work invites them to remember—and embody—who they were before fear overshadowed their authentic nature, so they can live, love, and lead from a place of peace within while cultivating greater vitality, prosperity, and joy—The PazMesa Effect.
The recognition has followed. Terrazas was rated Best Life Coach in San Antonio in 2023, 2024, and 2025, is a Senior Executive Contributor for Brainz Magazine, and founded Rise Above TV, a mindfulness media platform. Her vision is to grow PazMesa into a globally recognized movement, one built on a belief she returns to often: The most essential REALationship you will ever cultivate is the one you have with yourself. It shapes how you see yourself, how you experience the world, and how you connect with everyone around you.
Dr. Melissa Balizan: Leading Healthcare With Voice, Courage, and Choice
Dr. Melissa Balizan has built her career at the intersection of knowledge, leadership, and courage. A TV host, pharmacist, author, and speaker, she brings more than 26 years of pharmaceutical training and over 52,000 clinical hours to a mission rooted in one belief: everyone deserves a voice and a choice when it comes to their health.
Trained in both eastern and western approaches, Dr. Balizan earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and went on to guide more than 15,000 individuals through informed, proactive health decisions. Known by many as the “Pharmacist in Your Pocket,” she is respected for her ability to simplify complex health conversations while empowering people to take ownership of their well-being.
Her journey into entrepreneurship was born from experience. After years inside traditional healthcare, she saw how often people felt unheard or unsupported. Rather than waiting for change, she built her own platforms, including her television show Vital with Dr. Melissa, where she features powerful conversations with health experts, thought leaders, and wellness innovators, exploring both traditional and nontraditional approaches to redefining how we live, age, and thrive. Through her work, she amplifies voices, especially women, and creates opportunities where none existed before.
Dr. Balizan is also a four-time best-selling author and a Rising Constellation Award nominee, with recognition that reflects both her credibility and influence. Yet her greatest impact is felt one conversation at a time. She leads with integrity, compassion, and clarity, blending expertise with empathy to help others step into confidence and informed decision-making.
Today, Dr. Balizan continues to expand her reach through speaking, media, and education, guided by purpose rather than permission. Her work stands as proof that leadership grounded in service can change lives, elevate voices, and leave a lasting legacy.

Keynon Lake: Doing Life with the Youth Everyone Else Gave Up On
Kids can care less about what you know until they know how much you care. That belief sits at the center of everything Keynon Lake has built. A native of Asheville, North Carolina, and a former collegiate athlete who briefly played professionally overseas, Lake spent nearly 20 years as a Child Protective Services social worker, seeing firsthand the broken families and fatherless homes that shape a young person’s path. In 2012 he turned that experience into a movement.
My Daddy Taught Me That began as a book, written to honor his own father, a man who gave everything to his family and community. It quickly grew into something larger. Today Lake is Founder and Executive Director of KL Training Solutions, one of Western North Carolina’s largest youth-led, Black-led organizations, home to eight programs spanning mentorship, academic support, job training, sports, and violence prevention.
What sets the organization apart is the approach. As Lake puts it, the team does not simply run programs. They do life with their students. Mentoring, after school work, and summer programming are the easy parts. The difference is showing up, building authentic relationships, and offering real love and honest direction to young people who rarely receive it. That commitment shows in the results. Students enrolled at least ten months graduate high school at a 95 percent rate, and active participants have had no incarcerations or violent incidents in a decade.
The recognition has followed. In 2020 the organization was featured nationally on CNN, in 2023 it was named program of the year by the North Carolina Gang Investigation Association, and in 2025 it was named small business of the year by the Asheville Chamber of Commerce. Still, Lake will tell you the real award is watching a young person finally figure it out and thrive.
